With a completely trashed motor? I'm thinking you are $1000 high. Depends on your local market. In West Michigan, that sled, with a running motor, is $3000 max and probably negotiates down to $2500 this time of year.
I'm thinking either rebuild it or find a used motor to swap.
Good luck.

for those that dont know what happened
No warning lights at all.. I started it , pulled it out of the garage, let the exchangers warm up a bit.. ran it easy for about 5 miles or so ( I always do a good warm up before I hammer on it ) Then lined em up on the trail with my cousins MXZ800 and he pulled on me @ 70, then we turned around, Did it again.. He pulled hard on me at 60 and I knew something was wrong, then all the sudden I heard a loud clank.. then it died.. I thought it was the clutch, so we towed it home , got in the garage and started it up for a second just to see where it was coming from.. Well after that ( the vid I posted ) the primary locked up and theres NO pull on the recoil at all... Everything is locked up
What really pisses me off is that with this sled , and my other sx700 I bbought, with registration, and getting them all tuned up etc etc.. Its been almost $5,000.. Thats half way to a brand new sled.. and now I got one with a blown motor, and one in dire need of a tune up and a track.. FML

if you can get $1800 for a viper with blown crank/engine, you better deliver it for the guy right to his house because its a early Christmas present to you..................
you can get a viper running, pull the rope for $2300-2500 in nice shape.
just sell it and put some more $$ to the sell price and get another one running or differnt sled, thats a no brainer.

I love that sled. I've only had it for a few weeks but just knowing what good condition it really is in it's hard to let it go.
He's coming to look at it tonight. He said he's gonna be at the house tonight with cash in hand to take it. He sounds extremely interested and that he's gonna tear the motor apart tomorrow. Either way you look at it. If he's a gearhead and can fix it for 1000 bucks. Then he's gonna have a new sled in perfect condition. Can't lie. It does sting a bit

I hear what your saying. i just got mine this year too and replace the center piston and cylinder after my 3rd ride and now i have to do the same to another piston and cylinder. I love this sled but it seems to be spending more time apart then on the trail

Why don't you try and fix it your self?
Sold - $1800
No time to fix anything.. I work 60 hrs a week most of the time.. When I want to relax or have fun, I wanna just get out and go

WOW.. good deal you got. I saw Vipers on Craigslist before for 2 k. running, of course who knows how they where running. Glad you got some money back.
Last week I lost one in Eden Prairie, 02 Viper ER with front end damage for $ 1200. That was a good buy....and better one for you.

Yea , I still have the SX tho.. Not nearly the same, but still a good runnin Yammy.
The guy who bought it worked at RJ Sports ( which is our Yamaha dealer ) as a mechanic.. I think we both got good deals
Now , Honestly.. Im gonna look at buying a new sled.. Yamaha, or Ski doo .. Very undecided tho
Happy the sale is over, but sad its gone
