I did the silencer mod on my SX Venom and all I can say is, ...WOW!!

A buddy of mine was with me and he has a can on his sled. When I told him what I was doing he just laughed and said "I hope you don't F@#k up the exhaust". Well when I was done, I started up my sled and the first thing he said was "hey that sounds like the can I got on my sled".

Many thanks to this forum for saving me $300 (Cdn), ....next step the 'reed stopper notch'.

Roger.

Bigger the hole, louder it gets, just from what ive heard..hehe! :WayCool:

I knew you could do it ;)! Brent

You could remove your silencer and pull it over and listen for a couple seconds...that would sound almost the same..lmao! (mine isnt that loud, but close!) Brent

I should do that and tell my wife to come out in the garage and hear what it sounds like with the silencer mod done, ....I'm sure she would just look at me with piercing eyes and then walk out of the garage.

That would be too funny!

I would..lmao! that would be funny...o wait thats what mine did, dude might want to think about that! ;):D Brent

Actually my wife just smiles and says...still wont keep up with me! :o|

Not trying to start an argument but why would you gut a Venom can? There's nothing to be gained except a bunch of pissed of landowners. I'll bet you put that sled on a dyno before and after and you prolly lost 2-4hp to boot.

No arguement here, but you need to know why I did the silencer mod...

Achieving maximum horsepower is not a big deal to me. As long as I can go 60 mph I'm happy. 90% of the time I'll be riding with my 3 year old son to go to my uncles' cabin to do some ice fishing. I use my sled to enjoy the outdoors with my family, not screaming down a lake with my friends trying to catch up.

If you're wondering why I got a 600 and the fact that I'm not planning on using all the horsepower, it's that I was going to get a 500, but the smallest Yamaha makes is a 600 (SXVenom), and I didn't want to get a Bravo (no offense to anyone that has a Bravo).

I did the silencer mod to make my sound better (not louder). I wanted more of a 'growl' and to tell the truth I can't really tell if it's louder than stock (doesn't seem to be, maybe a few of db's but that's it). I would say that it's between stock exhaust and a trail can, and alot of people here have trail cans and no complaints from anyone.

I am the one that gutted a sx600r tripple. Two main reasons....to piss off my neighbors and to get plenty of attention on the trails in IOWA. I do have a stock can that I change back when I leave the state. ;)!

I have notice a power difference to the good. Brent

IT MAY NOT SEEM BAD RIGHT NOW IN YOUR AREA BUT ALL IT TAKES IS ONE PERSON TO START BITCHING AND GET THE BALL ROLLING AND YOU WILL HAVE CLOSED TRAILS AND REGULATIONS!! JUST LOOK AT WHAT HAPPENED IN QUEBEC AND SEE WHAT I MEAN!! :ORC

Wow, did you need to YELL ABOUT SOMETHING YOU KNOW NOTHING ABOUT??

1st I ride Iowa Ditches in the middle of nowhere. We dont have trail systems, we have one groomer that a local club owns and is out maybe once or twice a year. Our other clubs dont have enough funding or money to purchase a groomer or mark trails.

2nd If you would have read my post you would see that when I leave Iowa I change my pipe, because I know how important it is not to have loud pipes on REAL trail systems.

Guys , settle down....these silencer mods are barely noticable...I would not mod anything that would ruin our snowmobiling...I ride where they monitor the sound levels and have had no issues....so lets keep this on the level...thanks
