BRING IT !
Ok, my buddy has an 05 RX1 with brand new 1 1/4 Ripsaw, I think with 196 studs and a really good clutch setup. I have an 02 SRX with stock track and warn down 144 studs, and really good clutching. I out weigh him by about 20 pounds so I told him lets go from a roll. (I didn't want any part of that Ripsaw and those studs from a stand still) we raced 2 times from a roll starting at 35mph, same exact result both times. He would lead by a ski at first until I hooked up on the hard packed trail and then I would pull right up to even with him, then at 95 to 100mph he would inch a half a ski in front. They both run really strong but I am just wondering if I drop a tooth on the upper gear would that maybe help me pull him to 100mph? I am happy with the way the sled runs, it just rips, but when it comes to losing by a half a ski,
I just can't do nothing. How can I get it to pull a little faster to the 100mph mark? The sled has stock gearing in it right now. Any ideas to help me beat up on my fellow Yami rider would be appreciated, thanks in advance guys.
oh yeah, got rid of the silencer and went back to stock, and it seems to not have that snap of the throttle, I know the can leans it out a little but I can feel the difference with the stock muffler.!

Not sure, I have a friend that sets up my clutching and it feels really strong.
This RX1 is no pushover, pulls really good. We were basically ski to ski to 100mph then he pulled a half ski ahead for about 40 yards and backed off. I was just wondering if I dropped a tooth would it make a little difference in getting me there a little quicker? Please let me know your thoughts.

thats odd... i run against my buddys apex, not sure if the rx1 is faster than the apex or not, but i pull away from a roll from the get go. up top, i'm a solid 5-6 mph faster than him...

How much do you weigh? I am 6' 2" 270 pounds fully dressed to ride, he is 6'
probably 240 fully dressed, it's a great race but am just looking for a little bit more. As far as the Apex against this RX1 goes, I am pretty sure this RX would take a bone stock Apex just because of the clutching he has done, it's set up pretty good. Oh, did I mention the track and stud's on his!!!!

i'm 5'10'', 250 dressed to ride. not too much difference. the guy on the apex is like 180 lbs wet... his is clutched, though he will not tell me if its a kit or he did it. likes to think he has secret stuff. well his secret stuff is getting beat

So does anyone know if I should drop a tooth on the upper gear, maybe do V-force reeds, go back to the silencer to lean it out a bit and make it a little snappier? I don't know what the best bang would be for my money, I have the cash so just let me know what the best option is to get a little more out of her. Thanks guys, as always, love this site.....

we are going from a 30 to 35mph roll up to 100mph, I didn't want to take on that ripsaw with 196 studs with my original track and 144 studs, I think he would kill me out of the hole. Last 2 times we did this we were ski to ski until 95 or so and then he just inched forward about a half a ski. I believe my clutching is pretty good as the sled does rip really well, just looking to make it get there a hair quicker, thanks for your thoughts and ideas in advance.
why not just re-jet for ur can?No offense, but the way u word it, would think u could do nothing to change the a/f ratio.just being properly jetted should make a differance.

I DON,T WANT TO CHEST POUND HERE BECAUSE I DON,T KNOW EITHER OF YOUR SLEDS. I BOUGHT MY 2002 SRX IN 2004, JUST WHEN THE HOT RX-1,s WERE COMING AROUND. WE WOULD RACE A 1/2 MILE. I HAD A 8BU-00 SET-UP WITH NO STUDS. CRAZY BUT TRUE. THEY WOULD LAUNCH ME BY ABOUT A SLED, ABOUT HALF WAY DOWN I WOULD WALK THEM ON TOP. NOW WITH THAT SAId, NONE OF THEM HAD A RIPSAW. THOSE ARE TUFF ON SNOW. TRYING GREAING DOWN ONE TOOTH, I WOULD NOT BOTHER WITH REEDS, CAN,S etc. YOU WILL LOSE BY MORE. STOCK CAN, STOCK REEDS. 3:16 (yammie tony)

Thanks for the input, I am going to try one tooth down, a new belt (the one on the sled has maybe 1000 miles on it but still hits the right rpm's) and clean the sheave's up pretty good. I think I can get this guy and want to see the look on his face when I come back and walk away from him, I love having a little competition between friends.

Oh yeah, I will try and get at least 20 or 30 miles on it before I do any hardcore racing. Do you think I should wash it with soap and water before I put it on? I usually just put it on and baby it for the first 20 or so miles until it gets some heat through it before I beat on it, seems to work ok. Also, can I change the upper gear by just putting the sled on its side like my old ski-doo? I just had the fluid changed and don't really want to change it again.

YES AND YES ON YOUR QUESTIONS. IF I WAS A BETTING MAN AND I AM, I AM GONNA SAY THAT NEW BELT MIGHT SQUEL SOME. 3:16 (yammie tony)

Absolutely true.... Get rid of the can/reeds,go back to STOCK. Yah it sounds cool to you, but Yamaha nailed the setup on these sleds and everything you"ve added slowed it down. Pull your limiters up 3/4" and loosen your track off enough to get rid of the rolling resistance. This should get you out front .YAMMIEGOD3:16 said:I DON,T WANT TO CHEST POUND HERE BECAUSE I DON,T KNOW EITHER OF YOUR SLEDS. Blue, I don't have a can, don't have reeds, sled is stock except the clutching.
I did not add these, was thinking about it. limiters are up but have a long travel kit in the sled and on the front also. The sled runs great, just looking to get a pinch more out of her.

I WOULD MAKE SURE THE LONG TRAVEL IS SET UP WITH ALMOST NO PRELOAD ON THE SHOCK , SO YOU GET SOME SET IN SO IT SITS LOW LIKE STOCK WHEN YOUR ON IT ... FIGURED WHILE YOUR PULLING YOUR STRAPS UP ...sorry about the caps

Also be aware, if you gear down you'll have to play with the weight in the primary to get your rpm's back to spot on...Tony should be able to get you close.

Ok guys, I am working overtime today and heading up north tomorrow at 11am after working the morning, won't have time to do the gear change. Just going to wash the new belt up and get it on there, clean the clutch up a bit, and adjust the Bender Transfer rods a little bit more for better weight transfer. Then hopefully get next to my buddy on the RX and hand him his butt. I still expect it to be a good race, but hopefully with the new belt and the clutch's cleaned, I can pull away from him this time. I will post after the weekend the results. Wish me luck.
