just wondering how many miles one should roughly get out of a quart of oil with a 2000 sxr 700? I put around 70 miles on the sled saturday, and burned thru 1 full quart of oil.. this sled is new to me with 1400 miles on it... oil gap is correct, and looks good.... 30 of those miles were on slow windy bumpy trails where i was on and off the throttle, and we had some long lake runs also in deeper powder..im not sure if this would make a difference.... next week in going a a 200 mile sled ride thru flat groomed trails, so i will recheck it then, but i want to know what is over usage with a bad oilpump..i know they open up when they go...how much oil would you expect to go thru if you have a bad pump? i have to have dealer replace it if its bad, but hate to do that if it was just my ride style this past week..thanks
Your oil pump cable is probably pulled out of the sleeve.

no
i checked the cable, and the sleeve is fine... my gap is around 22mm which is where it should be. i dont know how many miles these sleds usually go with one quart as i just purchased sled...but i do know i was pretty agressive on the throttle saturday..im not sure if that makes a big difference or not... or is 70 miles way to much oil?

sorry to keep asking these questions
but how do i check to make sure that the cable is ok? i hate to pay for new pump.. i know how to check the gap, and the gap is set ok, and the rubber sheave is on good, but with the 2-3 inch riser, how do i know that its not pulling on the cable when im turning? is there another way to check to see if im putting too much pressure on the cable? do i check the gaps with the skis turned? and is there another place where the cable can come out, like maybe where the throttle cable splits? is that possible? im at wits end here.. i dont want to have to pay to replace pump if it can be something else..seems silly to have a pump go at 1400 miles...... like i said, previous owner had a 2 inch riser installed, i want to make sure thats not the issue, but not sure how to rule that out

when oil pump goes it stays wide open an jus dumps oil my vmax 700 is doin the same thing
you running the stock pipe? After I put SLP pipes on my SXr the fuel mileage really went downhill--->uses more oil too. Or as stated above check where the oil cable runs into the throttle block and make sure the sleeve isnt pulled out. It could possibly be the pump as they go WFO when they are junk. I doubt its the pump though. I've put 16000 miles on mine with the original oil pump

i found alot of post
i checked my gap, and its fine...im really thinking it has to do with my 3 inch risers that dealer put in without putting extended cables, or it has to do with the way i was on the throttle... alot of cuvey slow adirondack trail riding..im goin on a long flat ride in two weeks..open groomed trails..i will see how it works then.....

Check to see if oil pump cable is in the rest(idle) position when throttle is closed.

I put a 2 inch riser on last year w/o extending the cables and went through a lot of oil. This year I put a 3 inch riser and longer cables and oil usage is back to normal. Some else I know had the same problem.
