Just kind if curious but if it is pretty cold out ( below 10* or so ) do you put in the 8s then swap back in the 9s when it's warmer? I was told this was a good idea to run a warmer plug ( 8es ) when it was cold to prevent running to lean. Anything in the teens or higher the stock 9s
Run the 9's, 8's are a hotter running plug which will cause a leaner condition then you want with the viper........When it is cold out that itself causes a leaner condition...
Sorry I posted this in the wrong section. This is for a 1997 sx 700. Does the same thing apply tho? Or would the 8s be better to use when it's warmer out /say above 25 or so
Just run the 9's and go ride.

No need to switch back and forth because of ambient temps run the 9's as posted above.
Only reason I asked is because I'm running a little rich. So I thought the 8s would help. As well as running in 30 degree weather.

Jet correctly and you will be better off. Unless your having issues doing so?comatoast said:Only reason I asked is because I'm running a little rich. So I thought the 8s would help. As well as running in 30 degree weather.

Needles are at 3 and I set the fuel screw to 1 1/2 turns. That was pretty much stock and it runs good so I didn't wanna mess with it to muchdaman said:Jet correctly and you will be better off. Unless your having issues doing so?

Understood
As everyone else has said just put the 9's in and ride. If you are running REALLY rich jet down some but if it is just slightly rich. for a trail sled I would rather run rich and not worry about burning it down.
Thanks guys. Just wanted to double check.
Is there ANY reason or riding condition were the 8s would be better.
And thanks for the heads up![Wink ;) ;)](https://totallyamaha.net/images/smilies/wink.png)

NO!! BR9ES is what the motor is designed for!
Take it from a guy who has burned down 2x's this season with 9's! The 8's are not what you want, 8's run cooler which is "HOTTER" in the sparkplug world. My burn downs were cause by small jets and "Not enough oil". We went through everything and had to reset, oil, and fuel (jets and rebuild carbs).
As everyone else has said jet down if your to rich... but not to much!
Plugs are much cheaper than a burn down! I have 150's across the board and have no problems now.
Check your oil and fuel mixture, make sure thay are set per factory. SRX's are a fantastic sled but if youwith it to much you'll be in trouble!

YOU GUYS DON,T NEED 8,s. ITS A HOT PLUG. I USE THEM FOR RACING, BUT IN REAL WORLD. WAY BETTER OF WITH 9,s 3:16 (yammie tony)
YAMMIEGOD3:16 does running 8's in a SRX for 1000' speed runs make enough difference to try it? I have always wondered also if you unplugged everything electrical that is not needed if it would put more power to the spark plugs??

DON,T USE 8,s FOR 1000 F.T. ESPECIALLY WITH BAD FUEL THATS AROUND. HARD TO BEAT THE SRX BR9ECS PLUG. AND SHURE YOU CAN BYPASS ELECTRICAL STUFF, BUT WHY BOTHER. GOOD SRX WILL FLY IN A 1000 F.T. 3:16 (yammie tony)

Are you talking 150 psi? All 3 of the cylinders on the sx are 120. Is that ok?

I believe he meant main jets not compression...
Gotcha. Might be another overly asked question. But is there any way to put different jets on this thing without having to do a ton of re tuning? They get plugged so bad and are so small there has got to be a better option than cleaning the carbs 3 times a season
