You have to clean your carbs 3 times a season?? Are you running Diesel fuel in it? They should only need to be cleaned after summer storage. Even then they shouldn't be bad if you stored it properly.comatoast said:Gotcha. Might be another overly asked question. But is there any way to put different jets on this thing without having to do a ton of re tuning? They get plugged so bad and are so small there has got to be a better option than cleaning the carbs 3 times a season
Tony this sled is no longer going to be on the trails so it will be dedicated to speed runs only. I was just wondering if disconnecting some things would produce more energy for better spark?YAMMIEGOD3:16 said:DON,T USE 8,s FOR 1000 F.T. ESPECIALLY WITH BAD FUEL THATS AROUND. HARD TO BEAT THE SRX BR9ECS PLUG. AND SHURE YOU CAN BYPASS ELECTRICAL STUFF, BUT WHY BOTHER. GOOD SRX WILL FLY IN A 1000 F.T. 3:16 (yammie tony)

They were cleaned once before then I cleaned them last week. The jets were completely plugged again. I run good 93 pump gas from a clean 5 gallon gas can. I just bought it. So I don't k ow how it was stored. But during the summer it will be in my garage. Covered

). SeaFoam, its becoming more popular in the last few years! Its great stuff for a "Powervalve motor", it keeps the powervalves clean and lubed. Read the can at the auto parts store sometime.... What it says it does, It realy does do!
You would think I work for them but I don't! I use it in everything I own, from lawn mowers, chain saws, snowblower, everyday car and truck along with my dirt bikes and sleds, I use it in my limited use show car (its running a SBC 383cid strocker at 500HP).
I cant tell you the last time I had to clean a carb as routine maintenance. The only time is when I think there might be something in them do to poor proformance. 9x's out of 10 they are "spot on clean" and the proformance issue is something entirely different!
OK, there is a product out there that I have used for 15 years and its been around since the later 60's (I think!!!SRX700guy said:You have to clean your carbs 3 times a season?? Yes i'm finding these pilots on these triples seem to plug very easily vs. a twin and i'm thinking draining the gas from the bowls is a good idea for any amount of storage time, putting a shut off in line would be ideal that way you can start sled and run it outa fuel.
last year i had to clean my carbs twice because of a no idle condition on the SX-R but not once on the wifes DLX.
this year i've been trying something different and draining the bowls when they sit see how that's going to work.

I clean my carbs once before the season starts every year and they are usually clean already just doing it for peace of mind. I have never had a jet completely plugged. Even on something that has sat for a few years. Just have to make sure there is no fuel in the carbs when you store them. I will usually drain my fuel tank and then run the motor til it dies for summer storage.comatoast said:They were cleaned once before then I cleaned them last week. You have something going on. Either really bad gas from the station, a dirty fuel tank or some other way of crud going through the fuel lines. As long as you are riding a fair amount and the sled is not sitting the ethanol in the fuel actually helps keep things cleaner. BUT if it sits very long it starts to deteriorate fast and gum stuff up plus it likes to eat fuel lines.comatoast said:They were cleaned once before then I cleaned them last week. I think it all happened from the previous owner. I've kept this thing clan and running good now after a good jet clean. I really think something was ( and might still be ) inthe tank. I might try the seafoam as well. I've heard good things.
Yeah I would say try flushing the fuel tank and putting a inline fuel filter in the sled.comatoast said:I think it all happened from the previous owner. There is one in the tank if you were unaware..SRX700guy said:Yeah I would say try flushing the fuel tank and putting a inline fuel filter in the sled.
Yea I was thinking about putting a second one in after the pump as well.
Cuz I believe there is one right on top of the airbox as well

Right if the ethanol fuel hasn't rotted the end of the line off and it isn't attached anymore. plus it only filters out the big particals. Put one in the fuel line also.daman said:There is one in the tank if you were unaware..
If it has one in the line between the fuel tank and the carbs somewhere that is good enough. replace it with a new one if you haven't done it already.comatoast said:Yea I was thinking about putting a second one in after the pump as well.

Thats what I have been doing for years when I put the Motorcycles away in the fall...I have never had a problem with dirty carbs on them.
The only problem on our SRXs and other flat slide Yamaha's is getting at the float bowl drain screws is a little more involved but a lot easier then cleaning carbs!

So true,, to drain them air box and secondary needs to come out,i'd figure sucking it down below the MJ should be good but still leaves a small layer of shit gas in the bottom.I'll probably use stabil then drain down.sideshowBob said:Thats what I have been doing for years when I put the Motorcycles away in the fall...I have never had a problem with dirty carbs on them.
