HI guys
I have 99 sx 600. All the sudden my thum warmer got so hot it melted my glove and burnt me WOW :o| Any ideas what had happend?

check your lights also... I replaced my tail light with an LED, and after one ride, the regular bulb was back in! Without the full load of the lighting, there was excess current available for the hand warmers.

interesting you mention the bulb thing.I run Led's inmy tailights and my hand /thumb warmers are really hot...but good for a real cold day I would say..

I bought a rheostat from radio shack and connected it in series with the thumb warmer. It allows me to turn down the thumb warmer without turning down the hand warmers. Works awesome.

I did a similar procedure but with an aftermarket thumb warmer kit I had sitting on a shelf. Used the Hi/Off/Low switch and resistor from the kit, spliced it in-line with the stock thumb warmer wiring.

The reason these warmers on our sleds get super hot is because the company that made them (hot grips) was not supplied with the proper voltage from Yamaha when they were made. Mine are black in some spots, like they have actually burnt.
