2000 sxr 700... still havent had much time to ride this season, but going on first big trip next weekend... this is my first year with sled, everyone says these redhead tripples great on gas..... assuming sled is properly tuned, what can one expect to get out of a tank of gas? i think its a 10.5 or 11.5 gallon tank. I understand different riding styles, but just nice groomed trails for the day, how many miles should a properly tuned sxr 700 get per tank? im not sure if my gas gauge is correct or not, but I filled up and put 65 miles on it last week, and my needle just hit the 3/4 tank mark....that was 65 miles for a quarter tank, no way do i expect to get 260 miles out of a full tank so i imagine these sleds gas guages stay on full longer then they should..LOL

SX600R: I can easily go 130 miles before I really need gas. My gauge is like yours, doesn't really move till after 60 miles or so. SX500R: gauge moves sooner, gets a few miles less per tank.

I think you need to be mindful that Yamaha gauges seem to react slower than others. Last time I was out I was with 2 cats on cats. One was a 600 triple and the other an 800 twin. I am riding a 2002 SX600R. We went 75 miles and my gauge was just below ¾ and theirs was below half. As I recall we took close to the same amount of fuel. I think I took ½ gallon less than the 600 and one gallon less than the 800.

Look for 100-150 miles on a tank. My 97 SX redhead 700 (same motor as your SXR) gets about that. I'd guess from 10-15mpg. And yes the guages stay on full for quite sometime.

My gauge is the same as the others... The best I ever got was 16 mpg one couple trips usually around 12-15. This year I put triple pipes on, I haven't tried to figure my mileage yet, but I'm sure it's way less than that.

That sounds about right, I have a 2001 sxr 600 triple and i rode last weekend, put 30 miles after i filled up, next day, about 65 miles before next fill up, and i had just around a quarter tank left (95-100 miles or so).

After the gauge stays on full for awhile, the needle drops like a rock (well not really, but compared to staying on full forever..), then when it hits E there is still about 2 gallons left. At least this was the case with some SRX's and mid-90's VMax's, and it seems to be the same on my Viper when it hits the last bar on the graph.

It's actually kind of comforting to know, and pretty good range with a sled that can get into the teen in mpg.

I know that once it hits E there is about 2" of gas left in the tank..not sure how much that would be left in there.I know last year as an example..my 600sxr and 700 srx were about the same mpg same day riding..around 12mpg.But that is only if we ride easy and not always pinning it..otherwisw maybe 10mpg..not the best I guess..

I have a 97 700sx redhead, and last weekend i went about 140 km on a tank of gas out on the lake

The sled has a 12 gal tank...

you'll see anywhere from 10 to 13+ depending on conditions/jetting/and your thumb.

last year up north i got 12+ with my '01 outstanding compared to my Ski-poo buddy's.

Best thing to do is set your odometer and figure out your average and go from there,,,,,,, do not rely on gauge,,,,,,,, play it safe and you'll never be left with a walk or tow............ all depends on right thumb//////////......

Yeah my 98 XTC with slp pipes gets better mileage than my buddys 01mxz700. That twin is a gas hog!!!

I have a 98 xtc 700 deluxe. I just had it to Bayfield, WI last weekend. I have a one inch camoplast track, C and A pro skis and was riding two up with a seat jack. I got 12.5 mpg every time. A friend had a 2002 700 deluxe that is stock and would get 13 every time. By the way the trails were great.

Mine is set up mountian. 144x2 track. 8 tooth drivers. 20/40 gearing. I ride nearly all off trail. I get 4-5mpg.

I have run my sxr700 wide open between Cochrane and Hearst and got 185km to the tank before the next fuel stop and didnt run out but there wasnt much left.
