Needle question

Ok, dont laugh but I have never seen a needle arrangement quite like the Viper. There has to be an easier way to set the needles than removing the whole cross shaft to set....right?

Anybody have a quick trick here?
 
Simpliy take off the plate on top of carb, w/removing 3 philips screws.
Then, the part that is bolted to the top of throttle slide, remove that by taking out the 2 cap screws w/a 2.5mm allen wrench. Then, fish that part outta there w/needle nose pliers, and then you can lift/push the needle out w/ur finger.
Adjust clip position and re-install. Easy as eating pie. Lol.
 
I like to Pin the throttle so the slide comes up.Remove the phillips on the shaft, Remove the two allen screws and pull the slide assy out of the carb. About 3 min. per carb.
Works for me
 
Stingray ~ I'm assuming you are adjusting to help prevent the problematic burn down that you just went through. Are you going to drop them from the middle(3 slot) to the 4th slot? Were they at the stock position when you lost a cylinder?
 
although the recommneded setting for my altitude (8000 to 10000) is 2.5 mine is now set at 3.5. That with 146.5 jets is gonna be rather rich but I am taking NO chances this time. Please note 146.5 at this altitude makes the plugs black on a WFO run.

Sorry to hijack thread but what is standard/ideal clip positon on stock carb (2000 SRX 700) at 700 ft?
 
Can someone please tell me if it is the same procedure with the '99 SRX700? I took the top cap off (only 2 screws), and when i look inside, i am scared to touch the phillips screw...will i ruin any adjustment?

Do i just remove the 2 tiny allen screws on top of the slide itself?

Yes, Remove the 2 tiny Hex head screws and manually open the throttle at the carbs and lift the slide actuator out of the way to access the needle. You are going to need a pair of needle nose pliers to grasp the needle and becareful to NOT lose the washers... T
 
I pinned the throttle at the handlebars, which obviously lifted the slides to the top. But when i threaded out the two hex bolts, the slide went to the bottom and the slide actuator is in the way. How do you move the slide actuator out of the way so you can get the slide out?

You have to remove the phillips head screw so you can rotate the slide lever out of the way to lift the slide out.
 
ok, so i assume the single phillips head is not an adjustment of any kind, right? I assume it just holds the actuator to the shaft in only one position.

That is correct...the slot headed stud with the lock nut is the adjuster.
