Poor Handling Srx...Help?!?!

Picked up another SRX, and yikes....
Once I get over 30 MPH, especially on rutted up trails, feels like the *** end slides randomly left and/or right. Doesn't matter if I'm accelerating or just cruising around. My 79 JAG handled better than this thiing. Doesnt really feel like the skis arte digging in, just feels slippery in the back. NOT FUN!!!
What you guys think?
 
if your current studs are same length as paddle , it will feel like u on ball bearings , and one of those PREDATOR conetracks aswell ........BURN IT AND KEEP WARM

No studs, almost new camoplast 1". I understand studs make a sled handle better, but the rear shouldn't whip out at a steady 30MPH.
I notice I can spring the spring by hand on the center shock, should that be impossible if it were set right? Also One of the long flat rods looks like its bent, by the rear shock.
 
good thread, my new to me 98 does the same thing, If im on the throttle it steers fine but when cruising its almost out of control. Im novice when it comes to suspension tuning but it seems to me that I have too much ski pressure. I dont even ride it because of this.

My guess is with Whammy on both sleds.

If neither have had the skid out thats where I would start. The center should be near 0 pre-load as a base line but you'll find out a bunch more by going to BeTheViper's tighten up susp. help for you guys in FAQ.

The amount of damage done in the first two years of ownership new was hard to beleive. I can't imagine what 10 years of damage would look like or the symptoms it was cause.

Regular greasing and inspections doesn't cut it with a pro-action.
 
Deffinitely sounds like you need to go through the rear suspension and check for worn or damaged parts.
Also take a look at Bethevipers proaction setup guide, sounds like your settings are way off. You have no idea how screwed up the previous owner could have this thing.
But start by pulling the skid and looking it over.
 
Another thing, conditions play a huge part in handling. People tend to forget this. I havent ridden in good packy conditions yet this year.Its been cold fluffy snow that will not provide much in the way of traction.
 
I just saw that the front shocks were compressed an inch over what the manual lists as maximum. Woud that affect the rear wandering?

Yes, adding more ski pressure,,,,,,......
 
I adjusted the front shocks back to within spec., and I did the ski shim right away. Seems to be about 95% straight now, I'm betting the other 5% would be cured with studs, but I'm going stud free for a while. Feels nice having the SRX go straight again!!!
I'm thinking maybe a set of Ohlins this summer...
