setting your TPS properly--video

well I went to the SOURCE (radio shack U.S.) and picked up the parts I need to build a TPS tester. It uses a 9 volt battery and a regulator that drops it to 5 volts..The ends that go on the TPS are mini alligator clips like the video..Took me a while to get it done, but simple enough to do.Now I have a constant 5 to 5.1 volts to test TPS.Will try it soon. Here are some pics of it in off position (shows 0 volts)and switch turned on and reads 5 to 5.1 volts..cool.Now I am an electrician also...

I will have the new one with me when I come down this weekend Doug.

I know Bob is not around now..so what do I look for for numbers on the muti meter at idle and wot.The one in the Polaris TPS video shows 4.0 as the number you want at wot.Mine shown like 4.5 at idle and 2 at wot.Is yamaha TPS in reverse..thought it was stated that it was..but can't find the thread on it...so I hoolk up the 5 volt tester to the TPS..how do I calibrate now...??confused here a bit..

From what I have measured you would still end up 3.7 to 4 volts at wide open throttle on the Yamahas as well. Its interesting that Polaris calibrates their TPS at wide open throttle and Yamaha does it at idle.
is this what Bob means..that we should have 4 volts at idle position then..I have 4.5 now..can adjust TPS for 4 volts then..and lock it down...

to cold yet to ride..been like that since last weekend.I only rode like 1/2 hour in 2 weeks....think I am not as hyper to ride as I used to be.The 600 may be leaking coolant and the SRX TPS is not adjusted..might be inside this weekend again..yikes...winter is almost over also..got to find a new hobby or sport..was thinking od dog sledding..that would be mint.Feeding the dogs would be cheaper then gas in the sleds...pack a lunch and head up North for a spell..sleep right in the sled all comfy to...

He is saying you should have 4volts at wide open throttle.. I think your TPS is backwards, by what Bob has said. I have to look up in my Viper manual, but it could be different than an SRX.. Should have bought a Viper, Doug..

I set mine via the Yamaha procedure which worked out to .68 volts at idle. I also checked it at wide open throttle[like polaris does] and the voltage was approx 4 volts, just like Polaris.

Bob

Here is Bobs other Qoute!!!

I 'll wait till I get the new TPS and see if it is the same or not..I get 4.5 v at idle and 1.6 v at wot(throttle to the bar)...whatever.....what a bunch of #$%&* crap I say...... :o|

this is what I want to hear..thanks...

No Problem.. You just didnt have your reading glasses on...lol... Enjoying the weather? My Driveway has blown in to about 3ft deep right now. Couldnt get the girlfriends car down it but my F350 walked through with no problem. The driveway is about 200ft long.. Going to have to sled to work tomorrow if the wind keeps up...lol...

Cam have you done much riding this year?I am at near $1000 in gas already and doesn't feel that I have ridden that much..weird....starting to cost riding these sleds and that doesn't include the oil that goes with it and parts...Is there a perfect sled out there??My old 78 exciter 440 back in the day was the best..never put a penny into it except cheap farm purple gas and yamaha oil..man has things ever changed. And it was faster then my sxr600 and almost as fast as the SRX....what the.... :o|

I have put about 1300 khms on. I ride from my place out to Lac Du Bonnet which is about 1 1/2 hrs.. Didnt go out last weekend though. Yes the price of fuel has gone through the roof and it is getting expensive. I havnt had any major problems with my sled so far. Just the odd adjustment here or there. She is running top notch and cant complain. I see you are having problems. That must be a little nerve racking.. and we have gotten alot of snow this year compared to other years..

Help me figure this out....I took 3- 1.5 volt AA batteries and came up with 5.09 volts, close enough? Watching that video, I see you connect the two wires from the 5v power source to the two outside terminals of the TPS, and the pos. wire from the voltmeter goes to the middle terminal of the TPS...you still have the neg. wire from the voltmeter left, where does that one go? Grounded to motor? Thanks

my tester shows 5.0 to 5.1 volts.Bob also stated the 5 v was consistent reading he got with the sled running.Let me know your results.I am trying to figure now the calibration nd setting of the TPS..still confusing as I am getting the readings the opposite what the Polaris test is showing..yet Bob says 4 v at wot is normal..I am getting maybe 1.6 to 2 v at wot with old TPS.Getting new TPS on Friday to test.

Set to stock yame speck and call it good ,,,,, it''s not a poo,(Polaris) stop the fussing and enjoy the ride......

I'm getting 4.42 at idle and 1.97 wide open on my Viper. This is standing on the PTO side of sled, left pin to pos. 5v, middle pin to pos. multimeter, right pin to neg. 5v and neg. multimeter. Voltage sweeps evenly through throttle range.

I had my wires wrong also.I now have 7.4 idle and 3.24 wot..supposed to be 4 at wot..so I'll see when the new one gets here, what it will show on the meter.
