In my rides. The nytro is an awesome standup sled that ou can beat on. The Apex is much lower, not good for stand up nor as much rider forward. Also. Not like this means a thing. But the gauges on the apex are way to low

IME, the nytro, even ridden sitting down, but treating it like a sport bike by moving around on the sled is a better sled than the apex. The backshift limiting of the nytro is definitely a nice touch.
I like the apex, but the more sit down style of it has me wanting more. I liked the rx1 way less than the apex due to the ergos.
I tried out the 1200cc doo 4 stroke renegade too last year. That was a 2010 model and I liked it, but really missed the grunt of the fx nytro. Now, I think the 1200 gade is a faster sled than any of the fx nytros, top end wise, but that 1200 doo looks like it would respond really well to a mild efi retune and a set of headers. My guess is doo will release a hot version XR1200-S with around 150 hp for 2012.
Out of the box, with a mid height screen, a set of shaper bars, stds, and some fine tuning to the suspension for me, I think the nytro xtx would make nearly the perfect ride...except that puny tank, which we know can be remedied, I just think that that should be a standard on the nytro, at least the xtx and the base fx nytro. The rtx can keep the smaller tank, although why would they if they have a new mold for a bigger tank.
So....
My guesses for 2012 for Yamaha are..
Fx nytro, bigger tanks, and BNP&G doubtful any new nytro model will come out.
Vector, EPS as at least an option if you get the deluxe version, and can be had with out EPS on a base vector, and BNP&G
Ventures, no more old rx1 chassis, as both the GT and normal venture will be the apex chassis. Maybe an apex motor in the GT, and the base will be the 1050 efi 3 cylinder. BNP&G of course They might drop the venture light, but I doubt that.
Phazer, no changes other than BNP&G... maybe drop the RTX....
The wild card I say is a 100 hp middleweight, and if there is one, then one of those will replace the regular venture or venture light along with the trail and a rough trail version in 128"
Doo, I think will do as I guessed before with the hotted up 1200 4 stroke, and a couple iterations, summit, GT, and mxz. Outside of BNP&G of course.
Polaris, I think they make a new 4 stroke. At least 3 cylinders, and maybe a turbo.
I want them to make a 700cc rush, but I doubt that, but I do expect a revised high tech 800cc 2 stroke (DI maybe) to compete with cat and doos new 800 beasts. I got an email from polaris with 3 crates for 2012 sleds, so I bet 3 new models will come out.
At bare minimum a new 4 stroke and totally revised 800 2 stroke are needed.
Cat, for 2012 maybe just maybe they put a different hood on the twin spar sleds. The current one is butt ugly at best. The rest of cat's line up I think is fairly sound, outside of them being arctic cats. LOL

We had the yamaha demo days today up at the island lake inn in Duluth mn. I rode the apex se, apex xtx, the nytro rtx and the nytro xtx.
IMO. They are all crap on the trail. They just seem to tippy. I'm used to sleds that are planted to the ground. Especially the the skis but these sleds seemed all over the place. Yes I was riding pretty aggressive but that's what I can compare to. Ski doo is leaps and bounds ahead of yamaha in trail riding and chassis
This might start an argument but I hope not
As for performance. We took the sleds across the road to a wide open lake then on a 25 mile trail ride. There were tons of 600 and 800 gades there all riding the yamaha for the demo day. Once they were done they got on their sleds ran on the lake with a apex xtx and a nytro xtx and ran to 80-85. The gade 600 got the jolesjot on everyone thenthe apex and nytro pulled ahead quickly being reeled in by the 800. At about an 1/8 mile the 800 was pulling fast on everyone. Followed by the 600 then apex then nytro. They did multiple rolling runs like this.
As for a conclusion the nytro was a tiny tiny bit quicker thanthe etec 600. But like I said they only ran to 80 and the apex only held "close" NOT EVER pulling on the apex from a roll or a dig. The etec 800 is impressive and shockingly quiet. But I don't see EVER how a apex could win a race against an etec. It pulled in every type of run and kept going. The conditions on the lake were groomed with about a 12" base. No sled had picks or mods. The miles on the apex was 1300 on the xtx and 720 on the nytro
Not dogging yamaha as I'm actually considering buying one. But they need to reduce the weight somehow and need to work on rider position and chassis. IMO the nytro is a horrible trail sled. But seems like it would be a fun ditch banger or jumper but after riding etecs they all feel like tanks. With yamaha you feel gravity while the doos ride like they defy it
If you get a nytro xtx and get it set up right for your riding style it will ride like its on a rail with NO inside ski lift. I test rode a apex this last weekend and love it power steering is awesome and it too hugged the trail like it was on a rail. SET UP IS EVERYTHING AND IT DOES TAKE SOME TIME TO ACHEIVE THIS BUT IMO YAMAHA IS LEAPS AHEAD OF ALL THE OTHER MAKES. But hey if we all love the same thing it would be a boring world wouldn't it.

I agree that why I bought a nytro xtx over a apex I like to sit and stand when I ride much easier on a nytro. I did tell the Yamaha rep that was at our local dealers demo days that the perfect sled would be a nytro with a apex engine and also the apex handwarmer controls and have powersteering.

I have a chance to purchase locally either an 09 nytro xtx demonstrator with 1600 miles, the new dupont sliders and new carbides, full 1 year warranty for $8945 or an out of the box 2012 for $12000.(Canadian prices) I am a tightwad and am thinking a machine with 1600 miles and warranty would suit me better, all else being equal. I would likely own it until it is completely messed, something like my Viper, so resale is not relevant. Are these machines exactly the same other than color? What say you?
