Hi, I have a 97 700sx and I have some questions for my shock swap. I bought shocks that were off a 02 viper for 50 bucks. I have the right shock on already. I removed my shock brackets that were bolted to the frame so the longer shocks would fit.
What do I do for the gap between the top of the viper shock where it bolts onto the frame? (there is a 1/4" of gap on both sides where it should bolt on) Should I just put a few washers to fill the gap?
Also, I can't get the bottom bolt off of my old left shock on the vmax. I have the nut off, I just cant get the bolt to slide through. The bolt spins but it wont come out (siezed to a bearing inside shock). Iv tried heating it up, soaked it in wd-40, pryed it, just nothing works. Should I just cut the bolt with a dremal? (I have just over a 1/4" of gap now).

I just added a few washers on mine I had it like this for 3000 miles.
As far as the bolt goes, if its turning it means that is almost out...I will try taping and pulling and shaking the shock side to side while doing it...Dremel or sawsall are your friends...

Ok thanks Nick, Iv tried everything I can think of. I will try cutting the bolt with a dremal. Once I get it off I will go to princess auto and get a handful of washers.
Thanks for the quick response

The washers work, but for about $6.50 apiece (I think...) you can get the correct top bushing that goes into the hole in the bulkhead. That's what I did. I got them from Port Yamaha (a site sponsor).
As for the bolt, just dremel it off.

I just got back in from the garage, I cut the bolt off with a dremal, and I just have washers on the top for now. The shocks are 100% on.
If I go to Yamaha what bushing should I ask for, and what model is the bushing off of? If the bushing is off the viper I will ask the guy I got the shocks from and see if they are still on the parts sled.

Definetly use the bushings. I just had washers for a while, but it started to oblong the hole in the bulkhead
definitely pick up the bushing its rubber with a sleeve and slides into the hole, use a little lube and it pops right in...
