I just totaled my 08 Tacoma on Monday. Hit a broken down loaded dump truck on the hyway, going about 50mph I think. I merged on the hyway and turned my windsheld washer on my window completely fogged up, with the sun I couldn't see a thing, it was -36c with wind chill so I went to pull over on the side of the road and surprise a dump truck was parked at the end of the on ramp. I was lucky to walk away with just some bruising and a severe concussion. My knees went through the dash and I pushed the whole steering column in a couple inches. I had a trailer hitch receiver cast lock in my console and it destroyed it.

Its been a crappy year, haven't even gone sledding yet, now this. Its a 2 month wait for a new truck ouch. Going with a 2011 Silverado. The Toyota may have saved my life but it was always half the truck I needed it to be.

My new truck will come with a remote start, and will be long warmed up in the future.

Here is some accident pics:

holy shit man! I surprised you were able to talk about this, looking at the remains. I'm surprised to hear you didnt like the yoda, most people say the opposite. How much damage to the dump truck?

The paramedics where surprised at the shape I was in, I didn't want to go to emergency but they strong armed me. I'm lucky the hood stopped where it did. I wish I had a video to see it in slow mode, It all happened in a split second. I didn't even know what I hit till I pried the door open and got out.

I asked the dump truck driver if he was ok, he looked at me funny and said buddy are you ok, lol
The dump truck only suffered a bent steel bumper and a cracked diff, from what I saw. I was in a bit of a daze.

As for the toyota I was very impressed on how it faired in the accident but not how it faired as a truck. for example

-I could barely hold 1yrd of topsoil in the back and it would bottom out the shocks.
-my snowmobile collapsed the tailgate the first week I had it
-it got horrible fuel economy about 16L for every 100km, with a 6 speed manual
-it felt like you where riding in a hay wagon

For the price its just not worth going back to toyota I can get a 2011 full sized gm almost loaded for cheaper with the same fuel economy or better. GM has dropped there prices dramatically, my guess to re enter the market.

hey carbon you told me that u did wanna change your truck this is not the best way to do it lollllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll....glad ur ok buddy atleast just some minor scratch

Gotta say, I am glad to hear, and also impressed that you walked away unhurt from that one. That truck sure did take a good lickin'.

Having driven many different trucks for work, I was never overly impressed with the Toyotas. They always seemed a rough ride, and the fuel economy was way down compared to alot of the others, and even more so with a load in the back.

I will say that if you need to haul heavy soil and such a small tundra isnt the way to go but if you want long time reliability toyota or nissan are the way to go. dont get me wrong I own a 1999 f250 superduty with a v10 currently and love it but Ive also owned a pathfinder and accord and I loved them as well. COncept, scary stuff. Glad your all good. DOnt feel bad I never get to ride anymore either. i only own a snowmobile so can work on it. lol.

glad you are ok for sure! with the luck we have had with our gmc, got with a tundra man. heavier duty than the silverado and will last MUCH longer and be nicer in the mean time

Glad you are fine, but the tacoma is a great truck. Sure if you need a half ton truck, then you get the bigger one...

That should buff out.........

lol thats what i told the insurance adjuster, he didnt think it was that funny.

Thanks, everyone I feel lucky, I ended up buying a 2011 gmc sierra z71 black ext cab with full chrome package, 18"rims and more. I will get it on wednesday ;)!

Sweet! I love my sierra and I work it harder then my old 2500hd. It just begs for more and still has factory tires ar 70k miles. Still rides the same as the day I bought it.

best of luck woth the new truck. ours has a tad over 80k miles and more stupid little problems than I care to think about. get the extended warranty!! ;) sounds like a sharp truck though, post pics when you get it! I love the look of the new gm trucks

Glad to hear that you made it through with little more than a couple bumps and bruises! Those Toyota trucks just can't be beat! I'm sure your new Chevy will give you many miles of enjoyment though, between its trips to the repair shop of your choice. I went through three Chevy's personally before learning my lesson... But glad that Yota was there to help you when you needed it, glad you are ok.

thanks. seems like chevy is hit and miss, probably depends on model or if it was built on a friday. My tacoma was a great truck well I should say bouncy car that had an open trunk. They may last along time probably because they cant be used as a truck and the only good yr ones are all on recall because there frames rotted out.

or cat...
we enjoy the cel on our sierra. maf is failing. the dash pops and clicks like something electrical is arcing in there. the 4wd sometimes decides to get stuck in 2wd and refuses to shift to 4wd. half the dash lights dont work. cd player hardly ever ejects discs. already gone through 2 ujoints. rear brake dust shields have rotted off. tailgate hinge rotted off. door bumper gaurds (chrome strips on the door) have had pock marks from rust coming through since about 1 year old. lots of peeling paint and rust on the underside. all around about 1/2 the truck quality wise that our 95 was. oh, and the exhaust mani shield rotted off lol! like I said, get the extended warranty!!
