Sno machines are new to me so I have nothing for reference figuring these things out! I bought a Otter ice Lodge/sled loaded its about 400# max ! I have a 480 Phazer Mnt Lite 136" track but it just doesnt seem to have enough pulling power through med powder (breaking trail). The machine maxes @ 6,000 RPM @ WOT & starts bogging dwn some! Any sugestions - bigger machine ? Longer TRack - anyone pulling a heavy otter lodge/sled?
 
Holy cow that's a lot of weight in your otter! Seems like the easy solution would be to lighten your load. If that's not possible, a re-gear might do the trick. Do you know what your recommended running RPM's are at WOT? If it's above 6000 and your bogging, you might have carb issues, i.e. needs cleaning. I have a 700 and pull about 200lbs of gear on canadian ice fishing trips over long distances, and haven't had any issues. Also, have pulled for short distances very heavy loads like full length trees on the ice for firewood. And then there's the occasional sled rescue (not yamaha's of course). No issues for me, but not really comparing apples to apples either. I would think your snowmobile should be able to easily pull 400lbs if its running right.

Agree with A Couple of Bucks. That sleds not geared/clutched to pull. And if you like to ride....gonna be tough to have the best of both worlds on that one!
 
Might want to look into some ICE PICKS for the track when getting gears,weights,rivits ect, etc. Or better yet....Look at the classified section for at least the gears. Just to save some quid.

Dang that is a heavy setup......

I have an otter lodge myself and run the two swivel seats, and I'd like to think I am nowhere near that weight. Then again, I have never pulled mine with a sled in the past...I was always huffing it on foot until the ice got thick enough to drive out.....

If you are rolling with a Jiffy ice Auger and a 20lb cylinder, that'll add close to 70 lbs right there....and from what I have seen some guys around here by building would "inserts" to add compartments out of plywood and 2x2...and I can believe it. I traded my Jiffy Model 30 off for a strikemaster (actually made 5 miles from my place) and run a 5lb propane cylinder for the heater with the full intentions of being lightweight as I was always on foot.

Another thing I'd recommend if you haven't added it to your sled is the hifax kit. I found that has helped a bit too. Great fish houses, but built like tanks. (they are actually made about 10 mile the other way from my house)

Is it a Hyfax Saver your refering to ?? (a couple of extra wheels)
