Getting fed up with my srx, ever since last year I havent been able ride it and have been stuck on the rx1. The same issue is killing me here, I pulled the wiring harness and double checked it, its fine. I pulled the carbs cleaned them like every other year, didnt help. Now I didnt clean the internal screen under the float needle. When I fire the sled it fires up and quickly looses the pto cylinder, if I flip the choke for a second itll fire and then quit again. If im riding it will run ok at a steady speed at say 6-7k rpms. If im cruising and go to stab the throttle it will cut out sometimes and sometimes itll run normal. Im convinced its gotta be the carb again, but what do you guys think?
Ive replaced plug caps, swapped cdi's, and threw on a new coil with no change. It had top end brand new not too long ago with oem parts, and ran great, untill last season when this issue started.
Im ready to trade it in for another street bike.

well if you have gone this far..might as well check your TPS.See if it is working properly. My was faulty,SRX ran like crap all last season and most of this season.I got a new TPS and calibrated as per Yamaha's spec..it is a new sled now..completely new animal..I really have to hang on now like crazy..its insane..but that's the SRX I always knew was there..just couldn't figure it out.Test your old one,but they have been updated years back and mine woke up the motor BIG TIME.Don't know if this is your issue..but worth a try being burning it..

Last year when I when from a TM38 rack back to the stock sized carbs, I ended up getting a rack off a parted out sled instead of putting parts back in my original setup. I had an issue where it would idle fine and run WOT fine, but it would put the fire out in the mid range on the Mag side cylinder. With as many pistons as I have burnt over the year (due to my dinking) I thought I had lost another even though IU was running pig rich in the warm weather. I was getting something like 3-4 mpg and it was all going through the MAG. Pulled the carbs apart to verify everything was set properly and the nozzles / needles were correct. Nothing appeared clogged, but I ended up swapping parts back over to my original 33 rack and everything runs fine now. No idea what was actually going on with it, but it was miserable.

did you check your reeds and cages for wear and reeds for burnt or chiped ends this will make it run bad to

Thats what im thinking somethings gotta be messed up in that one carb, but im not sure what it could be. I do have a rack off my dads sx700 anyone know if they are the same carb? I know jetting is different id swap those, the problem is the sleds 200 miles away and when I go up I want to ride and not wrench, so I just jump on the 4 stroke.
I havent checked the reeds, as they arent that old either. I replaced with oem pedals, but still have the original ones that sealed good and werent chipped. I guess ill take those with me next time i go up.

Might want to check the crank seals. You can blow smoke (low pressure, like from a cigarette) into bottom of case to see if any comes out the seal.

Will the pto cylinder eventually stay lit without the choke?
Since you "get stuck" (you're breaking my heart

I cleaned the neighbor's carbs before Christmas and they had to come off again Saturday from sitting a little over a month... two pilots plugged.
I think you're right to go after the carbs again and pull the needle and seat to get at the inlet screens.

It comes and goes, its almost like it cuts spark but i guess it could be a fuel issue?
No dont get me wrong I do love the Rx, but after all the suspension work the SRX is way too much fun!
I suppose ill plan on pulling those carbs back off and going through them with the comb. Ill take a look at the reeds just to check and bring my other set with me. I guess I just go a day early....

Clean or remove those carb screens!
Make sure when you clean the carbs again that you put(blow) either compressed air or carb cleaner through the pilot circuit those orfices are so small that they plug pretty easily.
Another tought is to spray carb cleaner around the crank seal and intake boot areas to make doubly sure that you dont have any air leaks. Have you changed plugs in that cylinder to insure that you don't have a bad one.

I do use compressed air when i clean them. It also has had a few sets of plugs, no difference.
Not sure how much you ran this sled, but I would try dump out the gas, put in new fuel with sea foam.
