At a total loss...

Dude you are bringing back memories of some some very frustrating times for me personally. My sled acted exactly the way you are describing. I did everything you have done with no change.Carbs 3 times, messed with the carbs, adjusted my throttle must have been a hundred times, I even rebuilt the clutches. Same thing. It turned out to be the TORS switch on the carbs, unplug and test them separately. Here's the thread I started back then. Hope it helps...Soc

Good point!

A TORS issue could definately do this...try bypassing the TORS and do a couple test runs.
To bypass TORS unplug carb TORS switch from wiring harness then plug the wiring harness connections into each other this completes the TORS circuit just like a properly functioning TORS would do.

worth a try!

tors

I had a Viper that I thought burned down, stopped running at WOT. After comming to a stop the damn thing would fire on one then pick-up the others. The TORS was the culprit ! Unplug the wires and connect them from the wiring harness and back, leaving the wires to the carbs unplugged. if you are having problems with the motor loosing a cylinder, I would start there.

Yeah, been there, done that! LOL Definitely not TORS. I ohm'd out the switches and even bypassed TORS. For the hell of it, I activated it on purpose to see if it was the same bog...totally different animal. Checked reeds as well..all look great. I know it has to be clutching. That's the only change I made to this sled this fall. Actually a couple of times when I came to a stop during the bog and waited for it to "clear" I swear I heard and may have even felt something "clutch-like" reset before I took off again.

Third day of my vacation will be spent in the garage...wife even came in today and suggested I go buy that new Nytro I have me heart set on. Good woman...but now I'm determined to figure this thing out on my own, soooo close. Where's the 42Below ???? ;):D

Well, pulled the belt; a little chewed. Put the stock helix and spring back on...runs fine. New Bender 53/43 helix w/green secondary for sale =)

There is a very slight bog. Not sure if its the new belt (shouldn't be right)? or the carb adjustment...out two turns. Also the oil cable was way out of spec, very lean.

Anywho, good enough for our trip up north. Glad it actually happened in a way, I thought the PV's were good to go but after pulling them, they were all gummed up pretty good and two were completely stuck. I've been using IPone for the last three years and never a problem...just went too long between cleanings. They're loaded up and ready to go.

Thanks for all the help fellas, this site is a testament to Yamaha and those who choose to ride em' ;)!

Well, looks like problem solved. Atleast you got to really check the sled over before your trip, and found a few things outa whack.Hopefully that was it. Let us know how it went when you return. Ride safe.

Been reading up alot on the 53/43 su also and i think that was your problem. If i remember right turk said the bender was cut way to aggressive and the viper could not handle it. Not all helix even though same angles are cut the same. He used the dalton i think in that su. I also read the one from pioneer performance is good and only 89 bucks. Have fun, heading up north myself tomorrow. Chris

Well, just returned and in true Irish Luck fashion, I never had the opportunity to pull the sleds up north. Wife and I were all set and sleds were loaded. All the gear was checked and ready to load into truck. Had to run to the doctor's to get meds for this nasty cold and noticed a pretty bad vibration and noise coming from the driver's side front wheel. Thought it was ice and snow..nope. On the ride home it sounded as if I was going to loose the wheel....bad wheel bearing! Sure, why not now??? Something just wasn't in the cards for us to sled for the weekend. Now I see temps in the 40's and ran on the way for this week.....

Ahhhh, livin' the dream boys...livin' the dream. :o|
