Im running a 2001 SXR700 in speed runs improved class. I have done the head gasket mod(1 layer), read spacers and stock pipe with a Bender can. My current clutch setup is stock primary spring stock arms with 4.5g in each hole. The secondary is stock green spring set at 2-0. stock gears 22/39. I am runnig 81.6 mph in 660'. We sometimes run 1000 but have not made a good pass at that yet. I was looking at Turks race setup and was wondering what type of racing this is for and if anyone has any other good setups or mods I should do.

Somethings weird with your secondary twist, the stock setting is 3-3 which is 60 degrees twist. Most guys run these at 60 -70 degrees.A rx-1 51/43 helix would work good with your setup there, also make sure your not turning over 8500 rpm's wide open or your loosing speed there.Mine is setup when you nail it wot it flashes to 8500 then comes back to 82-8300 and builds back to 8500 at top speed which seems to work fairly good.Get rid of the can and you'll pick up 6-8 hp, I saw a dyno sheet on here years ago for our sleds with a bender can and was certainly surprised by it!Run 142.5 main jets and lower your needles 1/2 position as these sleds are quite rich stock.
I ran 660 on 2.5.11 at 90.5 mph in 7.226 sec but I geared it down to 21-39

if you are in improved class you should run pipes....not sure where you are running and what the rules are but without the pipes you wont get any great numbers. I ran mine in 2000ft runs and did very well for a red head.
Up here imp would be with pipes

Thanks for the good feedback. I had my secondary at 3-3 but was hitting 9000 rpm and not shifting out. I changed to the 2-0 and got the "R's" down and speed up. I rum IMP because of the Can so if its not helping i will go to the stock exhaust and do the mod. I would love to run pipes but I don't like stingers and im on a tight budget(wife and 3 Kids) thanks for all the help and good info keep it coming.

Triple pipes would bring down your gas mileage big time so it would hurt your budget twice! The helix I mentioned would help bring it all together for ya and you may need to put 1 gram washers under each rivet to help bring your rpm's down.

Any info on the stock modified Can
I'll have to look back and see in the tech section, but there was a mod you could do with the stock can that was supposed to give a hp boost. Are you familiar with it?

Thanks for the HP list and yes the stock can mod is still on there but i didn't see if it stated a HP boost. As for pipes im not too woried about fule milage she only races and race gas is race gas. What pipes give the best improvment? will SRX pipes do any good on the SX. Just asking Thanks

If you dont want individual stingers than I would suggest keeping your eyes out for a set of SLP pipes, SRX pipes wont work. I found a set of SLP pipes for cheap they have a 3 into 1 canister that is louder than stock but not too loud, and sounds way better in my opinion. They have a install page that you can browse on their site that has all the clutching and jetting info.
You dont need to mess with the pilots or needles unless your running below 0F, just mains. Also the clutching recommendation was pretty dead on as well. My sled is way snappier now and im running 150 mains because I wanted to be on the safe side, gonna drop in some 147.5 for the warmer weather.

why are you running race gas?
high actane gas ONLY slow the burn rate
if you are running the head gasket mod most people are trail riding it, and the high octane gas only hurts the performance!
I think you want to run the lowest octane gas with causing detenation (spelling?) this will give you the fastest burn in turn the most horse power IMO

My ice run season is over due to my work but will still testing and tuning as long as we have good ice. Thanks for everyones help.
