hello, i just got into snowmobiling.... my two buddies bought sleds also with me this last weekend. I picked up a 97 v-max 700 triple ( sx? )

I love it! it is amazing compared to my buddies 93 exciter 2.

And it is way more clean and reliable than my buddies polaris they got ( i caught on fire first day riding them!)

Anyways i have a few problems i noticed. only 2! :2strokes:

First off my speedo is messed up... It will slowly go up to 40-50 max ( even though im hauling 60-70ish) then when i stop it will slowly go down after like 30 seconds. so the cable is intact and looks to be good. If the speedo is registering then the key has to be intact also that spins it. does it just need to be lubed or??

the other one is just a weak parking brake.... i did drive on it for mabey 500 yards but it probably just needs to be adjusted. the speedometer issue is the only one im scratching my head over.

Thanks guys. THis site is great! when i bought it. I joined!!

huh, I would expect the cable needs lube, but make sure to grease the bearing for it as well. right where the cable attaches under the clutch there is a grease zerk. and yeah, the parking brake is easily adjusted, just a cable operated system. good luck and welcome aboard! I am sure you will love the sled and this forum. we have a lot of great and VERY knowledgeable people here that are always willing to help. a truly great place. and post up some pics :)

ill get right on those pics! and i didnt see a zerk but i really didnt look. I was just gonna lube it with the grafite stuff. but ill try using the zerk first n see what happens.

I barely have been able to ride it much less take pictures but when i work on it today ill do a photoshoot!

I already love it enough to work on it in -15 deg. weather :brr haha

Iirc theres no place to grease that bearing without removing the speedo housing and the bearing. It is a sealed bearing so you need to remove the seals to regrease. Probably better off just replacing it if youre going that far.

ok guys i got it all done today! The parking brake was re-set to be set good with a 12 mm wrench and 5 minutes. The speedo cable i took completely off and took apart & cleaned. looked alittle dirty but in good condition ( no frays or holes in sheathing & cable) so i bought some graphite lube for speedo cables and juiced her up and re-installed. Hopefully it fixed my issue!! will find out this weekend :letitsnow

thanks for the info guys.

oh and btw it doesnt have a zerk fitting on my sled where the cable goes into the chaincase or what-not.

And i will take good pics this weekend instead of my driveway haha

oh and not to hijack my own thread lol but i was wondering if anyone knows the hp increase of doing the head-gasket mod and the muffler baffle mod also? i figure 10-15 hp? guesses would be fine too!!

probably about 5-6 hp tops for those mods, and you will want high test ONLY if you do the gasket mod

ya doesnt seem worth it if my motor was rebuilt 1000 miles ago i would hate to have too high of compression and melt my pistons.

Ill probably do the can mod ( just to make my ears more happy lol)

And the reed spacers grinding.

I have a soundclip of my bored silencer somewhere. or I can take a vid if yo like :) it did seem to give a bit more snap.
