97' 600 XTC oil pump leaking

The 600 is not like the 700's. The pump is not on the block. The pump is on the housing that has the water pump and a belt in it. I am sure it works the same way with a rod through the housing to the pump. I did look at the lines because you can see them well (looked at the pump also, just no clue). They did not look bad... but, it's leaking so slow you could never tell. I thought I read that these pumps went bad often. It look like a snap to replace. Doug

It is actually leaking out of the pump all over the motor and it runs down under the carbs into to pan. I think it is leaking around the adj. arm. I was also wondering if it fails does it send too much oil to the motor. His sled has been running crappy and is really smoking a lot lately. Anyway, a new one is $220.00 what other sleds have the same pump and has anyone had good luck with a used one. Doug

I've seen a 500/600 twin pump fail but it was because the double "D" shaped shaft was rounded off where it goes into the waterpump housing. I have also heard they can fail and use a crap load of oil.

You might want to get a new pump. They are not cheap but are a ton less expensive than a new motor. We ended up rebuilding the 500 that failed twice since it kept eating pistons.
