i have a 1998 600 vmax, think the oil pump maybe broke, using alot of oil. wondering if it is possible to mix the gas and unhook the pump ? if so what is the oil to gas ratio ?

been reading some other posts, some say its ok to unhook the pump and some say u cant because it injects a small amount of oil into the base

No bearing lube feed on a twin so you could mix if you wanted too,BUT why??? it's a PITA to do that on the trail.
try adjusting pump down and check throttle end play if a no go on that pump may be done, find a good used one and replace.
usually '98 pumps were good it was the 97 that had some issues.

I had to adjust mine when I got it. Seems no one at the dealership knows how to set them. I bought the sled from my brother and he had it serviced last winter at the dealership and didn't drive it. When I got it, the thottle cable was really slack and the oil was set at the max and used more oil than gas. Just goes to show each of us needs to know what to look for when they come back from the dealer, cause they can be sloppy.

My 98 700 oil cable got pulled out when in a hurry to clean carbs and did not notice till I used 2 quarts in 65 miles. I popped the cable back together and used less than a quart in 100 miles. What is a lot? Normally with the sleds we have you can go two tanks before the oil light came on. We were talking to an New 2010 Ski Doo owner at the bar the other day. He said they told him to add oil to his gas when it is cold out? Must be fine in the summer?
