I have an '01 SXR700, and I am looking at an '01 sxr500 for the wife. Are the 500's a good sled? Are they reliable? Are they an easy going motor, or are they a high revving motor like the old gas pig mid ninties Vmax 500? What is the engagement rpm, and what do they rev to? I just bought her a 99 Doo MXZ 600, which she's not all that crazy about, and feels has too much power for her. She has ridden a '98 Cat ZL 500, and really liked that one, I'm just not Cat crazy.
Guess I'll have to find out myself....I bought it
reliable yes
hard on fuel...horrible
hard on clutch bushings too...

Not really concerned about the fuel, it's a sled and they all pretty much suck it. Besides, it's my wife, and believe me she doesn't have a heavy hand. Did find a worn roller bushing! Have a couple here, and will be replacing it.

Why is that? I had to replace the ones on my friends wifes sled. 99 500 DeluxeTurk said:reliable yes

Nothing will be as hard on fuel as my 2004 Polaris supersport 550 fan. Worst sled ever on fuel. The porting on those motors was WAY off.
Buddy had an SXR500...... he seemed to like the sled. Not crazy amounts of power, it will get you from point A to point B though. I rode it on a trail ride one day, and I was happy with what it would do, seemed to ride along smooth.
