This fall I installed a used engine I bought that had had the top end done about 1000 miles earlier with 4000 on the sled. The sled had been wrecked and parted due to chaincase failure - I bought the engine with 125 compression on each side. I figured it was a less expensive way than rebuilding my engine again after twice times catching a ring on the PTO side. Once on the original engine and once after the rebuild.

I took that sled last weekend because I like how light it is over my SRX. We had just made the half way point and were headed back toward home (57 miles) when I broke a tie rod. Luckily I was in a field and was able to slow down and get off to the side of the trail. I shut the sled down and waited for my party to come back for me as I was riding last. They came back and we decided to tie a rope around the ski to hold it straight and get it to the next road. When I fired it up it sounded like it was running on one I firgured a fouled plug.

So this weekend instead of riding I tore into it - I put in two new plugs and still running on one. I pulled the head and sure enough a ring caught on the exhaust port on PTO side - AGAIN! This is the third time this has happended on this sled. This time after 143 miles. It has one rebuild and one complete engine transplant everytime the PTO side cylinder. Coinsidence? Bad Luck?
Anyways - I've had it with this one - Parting it out as I have time. I guess the wife will have wait to have a sled of her own.
