Is it 100% stock? if so, I would replace your belt and clean out your clutches real good. You would be amazed at what that will do for you. If your not stock, then you might need more weight. Like stated above, drill press the rivets and re-hammer new ones in.

Once you remove the rivets, you can also purchase tuning screws and use them in place of the rivets. They make for easier tuning when in the field. I have 2 sets from hauck (4.5g, 5.0 g, 5.5g, 5.9g)

I find it easier to use a grinder & grind 1 side of rivet, then hammer & punch. Just don't let the grinder hit the weight. Easier than trying to center a drill bit on the rivet.
Thanks for all the great responses, I'm learning all this stuff about how snowmobile clutches work as I go. I put a new belt on it about 300kms ago so thats new. I also cleaned my clutches about 50kms ago. Secondary spring was changed since it was not the stock one. That brought the rpms down from the 9200 it was at before to 9000 that its at now. But its not nearly as fast as I dont think its up shifting. So I figure that the clutch weights being changed may help me find the right rpm. I don't think everything is a stock set up on the clutch in this machine.
Does anyone know what weight rivits are in the factory set up for a 1999 Vmax 600?
I have been reading the tech section on clutches. My head is now spinning as I don't know what I should do at this point. My weights already have some large rivits in the end holes and smaller ones in the holes inside. I don't know which way to go to solve my problems. I also don't know what the weight should be from the factory. I want this snowmobile set up to factory specs if possible.
vmax 600 stock weights are 8cr's with 10.3 mm in the tip!
