porting question????

i have a 2000 700 sx, 141 mountain max skid, power inc tripples, 21/40 gears. Blew a piston las week while the top end is apart wondering if porting can be done by myself (pretty mechanically inclined) had seen some port specs on tech pages. If i do this would i have to re-clutch, i know will have to rejet anything else i would have to change? Or is it better to get a pro to do porting, and how much am i looking at for porting, i am way up north in saskatchewan canada. Would like more power but pretty small budget too lol, and this is my trail/lake sled
 
if you don't have a steady hand, and i mean steady hand, proper tools, knowledge of where to cut, your better off paying someone that knows how to do it. after porting, you would have to alter clutching a little. i could do the porting for you, but don't have the time right now, w/my house remodeling going on.
 
Mopar is correct steady hand and proper tools. If your looking for a little extra performance on a low budget, 90.00, your time and tool investment.I would recommend the Prologic templates for the knowledge of where to cut. The template is for mild porting (trail riding). After porting my 600 I richened the needle jet and pilot. The main jet stayed the same as I had before the porting. No changes to the clutching were made. I had thought the porting change the cluthing but I had another problem that was the cause. I do have an after market clutch kit, if you have stock clutch setup you may need to change. The template gave me some experience and knowledge of doing porting myself along with the performance gain. Another good buy is a book "The High-Performance Two Stoke Engine" by Dr. John C. Dixon.
