Just can't seem to get the 600 dialed in with the stock weights.Either 1 way it over revs or the other way it under revs..not consistant.Yesturday at wot hard pack on River only reving around 8000 rpm wot and got o about 142 k/h.Then on the same River in fresh snow the revs started to climb to about 8400 and only hitting 120k/h.Probably bachshifting in the powder and keeps revs up.
Got stock new 8dg's and new roller also..Weights are loaded 4.5 in both holes.Stock primary plus 1 engagement shim..engages at 4000 rpm.Secondary is 47 helix cut for belt to drop all the way down and red spring at 80.

Now I have a set of 8ch-10's here with 3.6g in both holes.Looking at the charts..these are a little more aggressive then stock. So do you think they are worth a try..I may as well try them since they are sitting here. They are f BM2's stock XTC weights..WHAT YAS THINK HERE.???

On my stock 700s pull the stock 8ch loaded with 4.5. Will hit 9000 out of hole then fall back to 8500 has stock 47 helix.

sounds to me like the 8dg's may be too agressive. If it won't pull them on the hard pack, then trying to backshift in the powder, basically still won't pull them all the way. I would try something less agressive i think. But what do I know, I think your missing a 100cc's.

its not a 700,so has less power of course. The motor has just been rebuilt recently..like 700 miles ago..motor runs good, just think I have to much weight in the tip..will reduce that..and I am running 1 tooth down upper and a 1.25 track also.

I have 2 sets of 8dg's here.Last year the ones I used had 3.6 inner and 4.5 outer.According to my notes wot was around 8600..not bad.
I know stock was 2.4 in and 3.6 out.Turk mentioned to put 3.6 in ..but I still over-reved.Then I put 4.5 outer after that .Doesn't matter with these motors. When you punch it from standstill..they still will hit past 9000,and then slow down to 85-8600.
Now with the new weights I am 4.5 in and out and just doesn't pull rpm.Hitting 8-8100 wot on hard pack.So I am drilling out the outer 4.5 rivet to get it back to a 3.6g rivet.I wander what will happen, got to increase wot rpm for sure.Could also be the primary spring needs replacing as that will raise rpms also..that will be next season then, for now need it as close as possible.
I'll take 8600 over 9000 or more.I can play with the secondary wrap a little to get her closer...but need more then 8100 wot.

im in the same boat got an sxr 700 runnin stock 8ch an i grab like 9200 then it setles in at 880 i jus got the sled an i had the 98 xtc 700 an that was normal for that i dont know why its at 8800 i have an 01 sxr 700

what a day of riding today..tons of snow and in the bush 2 feet thick powder..that was really cool riding there.Did some wicked hill climbs also..wish I had a video camera with me.Air borne 10 feet above the hill and landing on the bumper end and then floor it up..cool
Got clutching dead on finally.Turk was basically right..3.6 in both holes gets me 8450 to 8500 dead on wot. This 600 won't do anymore then 140 k/h for some reason.Used to hit 155 before..oh well.I am geared down 1..so that doesn't help I guess..need it because of the 1.25 track..If I want more speed..the SRX comes out to play. The 600 loves to climb staright up on hills and busting drifts..SRX would be out there stuck otherwise..lol

now that the clutch is set up ..like now..it will stay that way..no more adding/subtracting rivets for now.I used to have 1 layer gaskets before the rebuild. They wouldn't hold after the rebuild.I didn't have a set of 600 head gaskets handy,so my stepson(bluemonster2) took the gaskets of a spare 700 motor he has.The gaskets are good on the outside, but don't cover all the way to the edge of the cylinder inside.I probably am lossing a little compression with them, but they are working for now. After the rebuild and 1 layer gaskets ..I was seeing 140 to 150 compression. Now with these gaskets I am back down to about 125..so lost some zip or HP I guess.I will get new gaskets for the start of next season..unless someone has a set of 3 that are in great shape from a 2001 SX600R cheap..
