Bored Carbs giving me problems

x2 bored carbs work fine on any engine if it can use them and they are done correctly,which it looks like tom's were not. i've used bored 33's on my sled as a 700 and now as a 780 with no problems. the idle mixture is a bit trickyer to get right but that was it .
 
still can't imagine why someone would do that to a trail sled? do the gains achieved if you had someone do it CORRECTLY, outweigh the headaches brought on by chasing jetting...

had a buddy who did this on a 93 ZR580... That sled NEVER ran correctly and the engine melted down 4 times (I was with him for 2 melt downs) because he kept lowering/raising needles, switching mains and just trying to get it to run... He now preaches about stock sleds with no mods as his quest for reliability... tj

Seemed like a simple, respectful question that would have warranted a simple, respectful answer.

Oh well.

Not knowing where the throttle stop was set at (i.e. is the slide as far down as it'll go?), it looks to me like the overbore went beyond the slides ability to close off the bore at the three and nine o'clock position and that's were the unmetered leak is.

But if I understand SSB's post about boring the carb in an oval to avoid taking too much off the bottom of the bore, what's left is taking material off the 12, 3, and 9 o'clock positions. Or perhaps taking small amounts off the sides and the majority off the top?

Anyhow, that's my take.

Did I mention the carbs were leaking air at idle?

Mopar is going to post a carb pic with the stock bore. I would like to compare although I am buying his set very soon.

What really gets me, with everything else on the sled is bone stock. I would bet on anybody not being able to feel a difference unless seen on a DYNO and were talking 2-3 HP at most and killing the driveabailty of their sled. These things run awesome stock with clutching and good fuel.

mopar sent me a nice pic of his stock carbs from a 2001 SRX to compare. here is a pic from the back of the throat. does anybody have a close up at the front where the slide seals off the front?

I'll trade ya as well. Just had Pat do a set for me and am very happy, I seee adifference in top end pull but it's a drag sled only. But on a serious note I'll trade a stock set of 33"s straight up.
 
Ah no they don't havethe tps, my bad. On another note, I just looked at my bored carbs and they look the same as yours. Hauck did my carbs just a month ago, but I have no idle issues. What do ya want for them if ya sell em?

Im not gonna enjoy the sled till I get some stock carbs for it anyways.
 
Also, 2 out of 3 main jet wells are missing..

Those are the little white plastic wells around the main jet nozzle. They wouldn't stay on anymore but I must disclaim this info.. They will not come with mains or pilot jets
