Hello bought a 97 sx 700 triple and rode it about a mile and it just stopped running...... well that was 6 weeks ago..... had two blown cylinders and yea a lot of money later it is back together....... I was asked where is the thermostat???? great question as i have been looking and i cant find the answer..... i thought it would be right on top of the head.... am i wrong... before i get out and ride this monster does this sled have a thermostat... this is the first Yamaha that i have owned..... third sled in two years to need motor jobs!!!! I have only rode Polaris sled ..... please help

It is absolutely imperative that the carbs are clean and spotless inside(jets) as the crappy fuel of today is MURDER for burning down engines.

There is a thermostat and it is located right on top of the cylinder head at the coolant hose junction(small bleed bolt on top).

** You may wnat to post this thread in the Sx/Sxr/Vmax section for more help, also use the search function and you'll find TONS of info on your sled.
Welcome to the BEST sled site on the Planet!

My 97 700sx has a thermostat. I was baking on exhaust paint in the summer and my water temp light came on (red, bottom left on gauges). On the yamaha parts catalogue it shows a thermostat.

Go to snowmobiles, 601 - 800cc, and scroll to the bottom and click on vmax triple sx, year 97. Click on "01:cylinder head", and the thermostat is #13.

Sorry to have to correct you but that is a thermosensor, not a thermostat. It's just a switch that turns the idiot light on if it gets too hot. The Red-headed triples don't have a thermostat.

Thats ok, i thought thery were the same thing. Is a thermostat an actual gauge, and the thermosensor is just a light? Learn a bit everyday
