Bogey wheel gone missing...

Hey guys,

Had the Viper out this weekend and noticed that I was missing the outside rear bogey wheel. Looks like it just disintegrated! It appears that the bearing is still on the rod.

I do not know how to get this off... Any help? I tried turning that bolt out, but no luck. Then I took off the nut from the other side where the other bogey wheel was. It seemed to be moving a bit more, but still not too much.

What steps do I need to take?

Hoping that a few of you guys can chime in.

If you have the nut off you have it made.wind the adjusters off an beat the rod with a block of wood an a hammer towords the bad bearing,remove the fist wheel and beat it some more untill you need a drift to drive it in all the way untill the shaft is out.Than knock the bad bearing off to the open end.
 
the bolt on the rhs is pinned into rod..it does not come off.You remove the nut on the LHS and then loosen track all ther way and push the rod thru to the right .All the other washers,wheels,spacers will drop off as you do this.Do it slowly and grab each piece as you go and lay them down on a bench in order they came out and reverse order to go back.I used a rachet strap looped around the rear of the track and hooked the other end to a fixed hook on the wall at same height .I tightened the strap until it pulls track out enough that you can work with getting the wheels off easier and on.Once everything is back in place,do a track tension and center the track by measuring track edge to hyfax sides until they are equal.Of course you rotate your track to acjieve this also.Then torque the nut to 52.4 ft/lbs.

I'm guessing the bearings and wheel will be a bit difficult to get off.
 
When you do this make sure you take note of what way the track adjuster bolts sit against the rail (they aren't straight), these have to be pointed toward the outside of the track on each side.
 
you should replace the other outer as well and the bearing in the middle wheel/'s. going to have it all apart anyways.
 
Maim, can I easily get the bearing out of the two remaining wheels on that rod?

The 2 outside wheels, the bearings are sealed and cannot be replaced. Thats why those boggies are so damn expensive. The middle one should be changeable. I do know that the SRX wheels are the same size and much cheaper. Dont know why, they just are. Look in the classifieds here or post a wanted add. See them all the time on ebay also for half or less then new. Very easy to change just remember where all your spacers go. Also loosen track all the way and the axle will slide right out.

as was said, the outers did not have replaceable bearings. the aftermarkets do. just a large snap ring and a hammer to remove the old bearing on the ones that are replaceable. brother has kimpex ones on his viper on the outside and has added the 4th wheel kit. i just did it on my dad's 05 venture using an old wheel with a new bearing and cutting the long spacer as described on the 4 stroke side.
 
I would suggest that you pull the suspension out and check all the brgs real good.Seems to me that you posted earlier this year that you had over 5k on the sled and never checked the brgs.Some of the brgs you can't check very easily with the suspension in the sled and if one wheel fell completely off that brg has been bad for a while.If ones bad then there will definitely be more bad ones.I pull my susp. every year and give it a good going over.
 
If only I knew how to pull the entire rear suspension!

Wouldn't that involve removing the drive shaft... and all of that chaincase business. GASP!!!

No need to remove the drive shaft to get the skid out. Only need to remove shaft if you are taking the track out.
 
Just loosen the back axle nut,back the track adjusters right off,Remove the 3 mounting bolts on one side(the frt bolt on each side is under the footrests behind the rubber plugs in the belly pan side panels),flip the sled up on it's side(the side you already pulled the bolts out of),remove the 3 bolts from the topside,pull the back of the suspension away from tunnel and then just wiggle it out of the track.

Support the backend so that the track is just touching the floor when removing the first 3 bolts and flipping onto side.It's easier to remove the bolts with an impact gun as the cross-shafts will want to spin after you remove the bolts from one side.If you don't have access to air tools then break one side loose,then snug it back up,go to the other side and break it loose.Both sides should come out now.It will also help getting the bolts loose before you loosen the track adjustment off.A couple extra hands goes a long way,but I have done it myself quite a few times.Not as bad as it sounds.
 
Repair completed!
It was a little tough to get the rod through, but after that it was simple.

Thank you so much to everyone who helped out. $30 for the new bogey wheel, and 30 mins later and everything was fixed. I wouldn't have known where to start without the help from you guys. I had all of your comments printed out and with me at the cottage.

For $30 bucks more I can replace the bearings in the rest of the bogey wheels. Looks simple enough to do! :)
