How can you tell if crank bearings are bad?

I have a '99 vmax600sx triple, lost compression in middle cylinder, diagnosing the problem I took off the jugs to check the rings and the bottom front half of middle piston was gone. The rod feels a little sloppy compared to the other two, is it possible that the bearing is junk also? Plan on doing a top end kit, any suggestions on what to buy or not to buy?

OEM Yamaha rings and pistons for sure, nothing else

Bottom end can get expensive QUICKLY! Dont know if he still has it but check the for sale column. Talldude1 had a complete running redhead 600 for what I thought was a pretty good price

Sounds like you will definitely need to get into the bottom end as well.If you can actually feel the play then yes it is shot.
