1" studded or 1.25 studless

Hey guys.. Time to ditch the stock track on the srx. Which is the better route for trail riding? 1" studded or 1.25 no studs? What about lug studs can I do a 1.25 with lug studs? I don't want to modify anything, so whats the best on trails?
 
depends where you ride the most.I ride Rivers alot and want the studded track for safety on ice.I also have a 1" Predator Track.If you are mostly on trails,snow pack..then the 1.25 would be a good choice.
 
I have a viper that had a 1" Predator track on it that was studded. Last year at the end of winter i got a hell of a deal on a 1.25in rip saw track. I studded it with 192 studs. For trail riding i would say go with the 1.25in because it made a big difference on my sled. Hooks up way better then the Predator track. I don't know about the SRX tunnel but I have an O3 viper and my dad has a 02 Vmax and both the tracks had to be trimmed a bit in the track windows because they were rubbing the tunnel protectors and the heat exchanger in the front. Took only about ten minutes to trim it though.

If your Wisconsin trails are anything like our Michigan trails the corners can get iced up quickly so IMO studs are a must. In some cases you won't know the corner is icey until you have to brake because some clown is on your side.

With some 1" tracks you'll see slight contact with the HX protectors. Some let it wear away but I trimmed mine with a tile nipper.

I would also recommend the installation of rear HX protectors. Can't comment on ice rippers.

The trails are just like yours here in WI. I won't ride without studs, but every year I am reminded of how bad studless is when I demo the new sleds

I say run a 1" with studs. I run a .92 with 108 studs on the venture.

Also on trails, taller lugs = more hyfax wear.

ag, 192 studs ona viper sounds like overkill. I have 144 on my XC and that hooks up VERY well.

i run a 1" track with 144 studs and would have it any other way( and i just had the opportunity to do either track) imo you cant run without studs... especially on an srx fir the riding i do when you hit the ice i want to be able to stop, corner, and decend a hill safely

I don't think you could run that setup unless you have 8tooth drivers. If you have 9 tooth drivers like my venture does (srx's have 9t right?), that combo did not allow enough clearance. The 97 venture i have actually has a mountain max tunnel on it and has a little more clearance than the std SX one does. The reason i know this is due to me trying to find a set of heat exchanger protectors for my venture. Nobody studs a MM, and normal SX HX protectors don't fit that tunnel. I had to have a local fab shop re create a set of the no longer available HX protectors for my venture. I think the srx and the sx tunnel is identical.

I had my eyes on a nearly new 136" ripsaw 1.25, but after seeing that I would need to change drivers, I determined it wasn't worth it.
If you are running trails, I don't see any reason to run anymore than 1" with studs, 144 will work fine. A 1.25" track is a little slower than a 1" anyway.

Personally I would stick with 1" lug or less, maybe even 3/4". From there go with Woodys studs, megabites or goldiggers, 144 in whatever pattern looks best to you. Right now I am running a Kimpex track, 3/4" Ultimate Traxion, with 144 pre-molded holes down the center, it works good. They also make the same track in 1".

192 studs on a viper is not an over kill. Maybe on a stock viper but not with a piped viper.

It was a stock camoplast from a 2 up skidoo.

No idea what it was called, but it was 50 bucks shipped off of ebay a couple years back.

160 hp is nowhere near stock on a viper.

I can see why you might need 192, especially with lower gearing then.
