My 9 year olds enticer was hard starting at the end of last season and hard starting again this fall when getting it ready for the season. Carbs and jets have been cleaned and new fuel put in. This fall I noticed when trying to start it with the choke on that the plugs would remain dry like it wasn't getting fuel. I pulled the fuel line and didn't notice any fuel going through while pulling so I figured bad fuel pump. Replaced and still seem to have the same results. If I pressurize the fuel tank I can start to get some fuel to flow and if I block the carb horn it will fire off. After you get it started it seems to run good and will restart. I checked the compression and have 120/pto and 90/mag so I think the problem is linked to poor compression. My question is would I be foolish to just rering if jugs and pistons are ok. I considered doing a wet test to see if compression would come up in that cylinder but have not done it yet. I suppose I could have a bad head gasket also. Where do I start? Any help or suggestions would be great.
 
how is the pulse line going to the fuelpump from engine? is it dry rotted or cracked? Make sure you can get air thru it. When was the last time the fuel filter was changed? Those would be the 2 things I would start with first. Another thing to check is to make sure the choke plungers are adjusted correctly, when they are seated(choke off) they should just barely have a 1/4" freeplay in the cable to housing, meaning, pull up on the cable right where it goes into the housing on carb, should just barely move up and own, this will also let you know if the plungers are stuck. Those ol enticers are tuff, I doubt it needs rings, once you run it, recheck compression , alot of times once they run, it frees up all the oil thats been on them all summer long and they free up and build more wind..

I replaced the pulse line when I replaced the fuel pump. It did have choke cable replaced after the recoil rope broke the toggle during one of the hard start episodes (since have added electric start). I never check to make sure it was adjusted propley or not. Dont remember changing fuel filter so I will do that also. Didn't even cross my mind. Thanks!! Any other ideas.
 
just run it. it will bring up the compression in that cyl after it gets good and hot. did it with a buddies polaris longtrack 440. had to oven cleaner his rings though to get compression. his i started with 95lb and 70 lb of compression. ran like a champ ;)!

Mr viper, You were right on with the choke. I had some time to work on it yesterday and found the cable wasn't hooked up at all. I don't know why I didn't check it out before. Thanks for the help??
