Have been wanting to get a project viper for the daughter and i to work on over the summer. Well i found one and its a diamond in the rough. Mechanically it is sound. Has 3200 mi from one owner, comp spot on, drive in great shape, track decent which was way more than i could hope for, and suspension looks good. Will get the BTV treatment this summer. It does have a slight thud at slow speeds under power but im sure its the belt as it was original and the track was a tight as a rubber band. Same problem i had with my viper and turned out to be belt. At worse a bad bearing or chain case. I have all those parts extra so no cost either way. Cosmetic is not bad. Hood looks good, does need trim. Seat perfect. Needs handlebar pad (got one :) ) Big deal will be taking front end apart and all new powdercoat to trailing arms and radius rods. Painted them blue for what ever reason, maybe bent them at one time ? Who knows. My daughter says she wants pink accessories, tunnel trim, radius rod covers, shock covers ect. We will see on that, depends on how much work she puts in also. Will completly go through engine also. Might start a working log on it. For now will get engine fogged and put a way till it gets warm.

Excellent find!! I'd consider paying that for a parts sled.

looks like a hell of a good find for $1500!! How old is your daughter? They are only young for so long man if she wants the trim in pink do it for her she will love ya for it.

Pink, Girls, you got to love them. Glad she shows an intrest. My daughters love to go riding though time doesn't allow much of it. Make sure she is comfortable first and formost. If she is full size, you might want to find a boss seat. Definately revalve the rear shocks at a minumum and for sure, do something with the skis to help confidence. Dartless plates being the simplest thing to add and the best bang for the buck I have found. Install mirrors so she wont go off the trail trying to find someone behind her, I have heard that story many times from people.
I thought of doing a pink supergirl viper like one of our soap box derby cars but ended up with a red one so its kind of gender neutral anyway.

I was worried about her size the last 2 years as she weighs a buck o' five soaking wet with riding gear on. But to my suprise she has handled the 96xt pretty well and that thing is a boat, she has rode that the last 2 years. I wanted to get her a venom but the prices are a bit high around here. Vipers are everywhere but this one was at least a grand cheaper and really all it needs is some TLC. Im going to have all 4 shocks redone and revalved for her, if they do them that light and we will shine her up for sure. Its gonna be fun. Ive had a grin about it since i bought it. CCC

all i can say is you are one luckey sob to come across that for that price ....want to trade for a srx ?

looks like a great find. I think I will be spending that to get mine back together and running again with the crank bearing that grenaded on me this year!! nice find for sure!

Thanks guys! I hope it all goes smooth. You just never know for sure but ive checked everything i could to make sure the engine was sound. But ill be nervous till it hits the snow next year i can tell ya that. Chris

Nice find. I got a 02 viper for my daughter as well, I bought hers blowed up($800), so I just figured I would go thru it from end to end, she is 11yrs old. she went from a bravo 250 to a viper 700...... ;)!

you got a way better deal then me...oh well just go thru it and check all drive bearings, etc and it will be a good sled for her.
