I have a 98 VMax 700 and a 2001 SXR sled being parted out. I want to swap the single headlight setup on the 98 to a dual headlight from the 2001. Can anyone give me details on what exactly needs swapped to make this work. Stator, coils, airbox, wiring harness, obviously the dash with tach and speedo, windshield ect. Are all of these necessary and what am I missing??

At a minimum you need the headlight, gauge pod, gauges and windshield. I have done this to my 99 SRX. I didn't upgrade the electrical. I spliced the headlight lead into two sockets and used 35 watt bulbs. I'm hoping this summer to get HID for it since they also run at 35 watts. I was worried about overloading the electrical system, so I also retrofitted an LED trailer light into the taillight so that there was less draw on the electrical system.

Did you mount the LED tail light inside the exsisting tail light assy. or mount in place of the tail light aasy? I am interested in seeing how this looks either way. Pictures maybe?

All you need is an LED bulb for in your exsisting tail light. No need for a new light.
They make 1157 LED bulbs.

I tried an LED bulb and was not happy with it. You could barely see it during the daytime, and I wanted people to be able to see my brake light since I usualy ride in a group. Here are some pictures.

When i did my 1998 xtc 700 i used everything (all electrical) from a 2001 mountain max .Stator and mag/flywheel as a set ,cdi ,coils ,volt reg. and rectifier, grip and thumb warmer switches with knobs,ignition/ key switch everything! ALL THE WIRING except tail light. then i got high output.Philips extreme H-4 bulbs .What a big difference . It is awesome. Better ignition = more power also.

Anyone know if this will work on an SRX? Take an 01 and swap all the same stuff to a 98-99?

It should work just fine I would imagine.
That tail light is awesome and alot brighter! Did you just trim down the extra plastic to fit.

Yep. The Dremel is my new best friend. The light initially had a red reflector on it, but I cut it off because it made the light dimmer.

I'm not sure of the brand, but they are just H4 bulbs that are 35 watt for both high and low beams. They are bulbs used on scooters. I got them off eBay from a seller named jcatz872. They are located in Westerville, Ohio, so they may even be close to you.
