Just picked up a 1997 SX 700 triple. Thing was a real biatch to start. Had carbs cleaned, new choke cable put on and it is still one mean mofo to get started. Is this their nature or do I still have something wrong that I need to look into? I'm almost ready to dump it because it's so difficult to start.
Thanks,
Jim.

i have one thats been moded so the compresion is a little higher than normal and it ussually starts everytime by the third pull even in cold weather. if its in the heated shop ussually on the first pull.
Usually takes me 5-6 pulls cold to start it on full choke, does pull decently hard but still a great running sled. 7500 miles and still ticking!!
Make sure the choke flipper flops over 180 degrees.Had a hard time starting my 97 sx until I found out that I was only using half choke (flipper sticking straight up)
mine starts hard after a cold night. Usally takes 3 or 4 pulls just to get it to roll over fast enuff to really pull it over .then 4 or 5 pulls to get it to fire. But when shes warm I can start it by spinning the clutch by hand!
