hello guys, was thinking of freshening up my 99 srx over the summer , new rings etc, was also thinking of trying two base gaskets and shaving the heads, i always run premium fuel anyways, has any of you guys tried this? how did it work? noticeable increase in power? would it still be reliable? thanks

The old "poor man's" port job is raising the cylinders w/base gaskets, but the problem is that you start loosing blow down time, which the '98-'99 700 srx's don't have enough of. That's why when you tear that top end down, you see burnt oil residue in the main transfer runner.

king i thought about doing that mod on my 98 and talk to a couple companies about it. basically told me its not worth it, anticipated 2-3 hp.

01's go good! have you machined your primary and secondary to get some overdrive? getting beat only on the top?

no, i never machined them, we usually just drag race around with a few friends, we never run top speeds, out of the hole and mid range,

i also heard some good and some bad about this mod, not sure witch way to go, how much does it run to get the cylinders trail ported?
how mutch does it cost or run...if its about performance u will gain some a little better acceleration thats about it ...not mutch to gain on top end ..ask mr viper if u want a price on porting
Porting will cost ya about $250 a cylinder. Put 2001 heads on it will gain ya a little bit, you can buy em right on ebay. Clutching and gearing will bebest bet. My 99 runs just as hard as all others.Well it did til my new Mr. viper motor. Now they will be on the back side when clutching is dialed in. hehehe

Just buy my 2000 engine, should get you closer to your buddy's 01

at $250 per cylinder plus gaskets, labor ,jetting ,etc doesn't sound like it would be worth it, just buy an apex?
i'm sure u can get them for cheaper than 250 per cylinder

with what your talking about in this thread, a set of h/c's will give you gobs of more useable power in the low/midrange. NOTHING grabs the belt like they do.

Which set of h/c are you suggesting to get?
