sxr 500 ?????

just picked up a 2000 sxr 500 seems to be very fast for a 500 was wondering what it is rated for horsepower?

it seems to have a problem with tach it only goes up to 5400 rpms even at 140 kpm on the lake only reads 5400 what could cause this problem?

and seems to be quit hard on fuel and oil compared to my srx 700 is this normal?

Welcome Dan.
5400 is very low for a WOT run. Could be a tach issue.
You will find that the 500 will consume alot of fuel and oil.
They are also hard on the clutch weights in the primary.
Go thru the clutches and make sure everyting is clean.
Check the helix buttons. Make sure you are not runnng metal to metal
Inspect the weights . On my 500 there are always slight grooves starting to form. I use emery cloth to smooth them out again.
Clean carbs are a must as usual.

i put in a hauck clutch kit sled pulls good up to about 80 kph then really comes into it up to 140 kph so i think tach is screwy but not sure what to check on it
what do you mean hard on wieghts?

Dont know why but they seem to wear grooves into the weights.
Click on the Search tab" on the upper right corner. Go to "advance search"
Type in "500 and sx" and then select the Vmax,SXR axd SX forum. Lots of good reading
