Hand warmers not working

On my 02 Viper the hand warmers are only getting warm even when turned all the way up. The thumb warmer will get hot. I bought the sled used and the electric shield was tapped into the warmers, so I tried removing the shield wire and soldering the wires back together, but they still only get warm. Anyone have a fix for this? Thanks.
 
I put in an electric shield plug on my 03 mtn viper and looked at the wireing diagram in the owners manual BEFORE I hooked it up to the reostats for the handlebar and thumb warmers. I'm glad I did it because it looks like the modulation is done in the ECU. So I hooked the plug to the fused back up alarm connector. If I'm right you may need some ECU repairs or replacement...

Let me know what it turns out to be I'm very curious.
 
hand warmers

huh i having the same trouble with my 01 srx 700. the thumb gets hot , but the hand warmers will not work at all??? even boughta new reostsat for it and still nothing, kinda bummed out :o|
 
hand and thumb warmers quit last season ended up replaced the cdi on my 2001 srx now there fine BUT make sure you have tested everything posible before buying a cdi because they will not take them back

i had teh same problem on my 99 srx....problem was under the handle bar pad where the wires connect.....one quick connect came apart so the thumb seemed like it was gettin twice as hot.
 
My Handwarmers are not working either, but the thumb warmer and everything else works fine on the sled. I have checked all the connections look good and plugged in. But I have noticed that the brake side grip is loose. I think if I drilled out the rivet, I could pull it right off. Here's my question, is the warmer part of the grip attached to the grip on these or are they attached to the bar and it is probably damaged and not making a full circut. Also, can someone explain to me how to check this circut, I assume the sled have to be running, which connections do I test, and what should it read. Thanks Soc
 
Guys, i have the same trouble with my srx 700 2001.. The thumb is hot but nothing in the handbar,,, My dealer has checked my srx and he said that i have one handwarmer that didnt work and need to be replaced in order to solve the problem!! Well, i doubt that its the real problem but i have ordered a new handwarmer, i will let you know if it solve the problem!!!


but for me I'm sure its the cdi unit... or the wirew that comes under the engine that can be cut


By the way, the circuit is in the handwarmer and not on the bar!

i put blue warmers on and i had a connector under the pad and thas where it came apart

Thanks for the info fortress. I'm thinking mine is the handwarmer cause nothing else seems to be wrong. Are you having other problems, that make you think yours is something else? Soc

hey 99 u mentioned that there wasa wire under the motor????? what color is it and is it alone? and is it easy to get at? my sled was in a wreak and was hit on the left side. any info will help? i hope its not the cdi :o|
 
you need to use a multi meter to check the handwarmers. First, onr that sled is there a separate control for the hand and thumb? If so it will have a totally separate circuit and it is irrelivant whether the thumb warmer works or not. The hand warmers are connected in series with each other so if there is an opern circuit in either of them niether of them will work. You can see where the wiring harness comes up to the bars for the hand warmers as two wires. One wire is the supply, it goes into one handwarmer then it comes out and goes into the other handwarmer then comes out and goes back as the return. You can check two things with the meter (1) check continuity through the gripwarmers using the ohm setting, making sure the grips are unhooked from the harness. (2) start the sled up and check for voltage between the two harness wires when the warmer is turned on.

If you have no voltage from the harness when it is turned on you have to check the resistor for continuity.

The wiring diagram for this sled is in the owners manual(availible for free viewing on yamahas website.

Why take it to the dealer when it might be a simple electrical problem?
 
Check the connectors from the cdi box to the warmers, are they brown? Getting warm after a minute or two. If not, turn down the temp control to cool, do they stay cool, or still get slightly warm? If they stay warm, it's the ajustment control. Kinda sounds like someone made a bad call tapping into the harness, and smoke tested the cdi control.

Use more throttle and stay off the ;):D
 
Well unfortunately I took it to the dealer last Saturday before the last two posts were made, so I guess they will have the answer for me, plus she started darting like crazy to... I will let you know what the dealer tells me, hopefully it is a cheap fix, thanks for the help guys. :rocks:
 
Well, I got my sled back from the dealer and when I asked what was wrong with the hand warmers, he said nothing, they work great LaLaLa You have got to be kidding me they have not been working. I drove the sled and they work now... That makes no sense!
