this winter created many questions for me. i enjoy ditch banging, carving and jumping more then anything. i could stay in one area for hours instead of putting on 200 miles. having said this, my 02' srx isnt set up to handle the punishment im throwing at it and i would hate to brake such a great sled. i have done alot of reading about converting the srx w/suspension, long tracks, lighter swing arms ect, ect. i will admit that i am not very machanicly inclined, and not set up to undergo summer long projects(garage, tools, knowhow).
i guess i said all that to ask this. would it be worth the trouble to stick with the yamaha and undergo the lengthy upgrades? or would it be better to sell it and buy a sled set up for what i do? and when i say buy a NEW sled i mean new to me, and not outlandishly expensive.

Wishing for snow!
Stay with Yamaha, and maybe try a 4 stroke? Nytro, maybe.
Or switch. If there is a sled out there that fufills what you need in a sled go for it. I am a yamaha guy, but lets face it......... The srx isn't a sled that should be beat, ditched, and jumped. I Will hold onto my srx as long as I can, but Im seriously thinking about jumping to an apex. Still a yamaha, but hey you never know. The new polaris' are looking quite interesting, lol.
DO what you think is best for you, and your sled.

Apex's are an AWESOME sled. I rode my brother-in-law's 2009 2 weeks ago and loved it. I will be jumping over to one of those as soon as I can afford one.

i have been thinking about the same thing too. i love my viper with the good fuel milage. but i know its not as bad as your srx but its still not a jumping machine. its actually not even worth going on a ride with sleds any more. i love going for 200 plus miles rides but you fill up twice and your 80 deep into fuel alone now. and i guess from what i here. fuel is not going to get any cheaper. i got c and a skies right now and ripsaw. was gonna put a edge skid in the rear. but i might just jump ship and make a proxr 440/600 ves. still be trail ridable when need to but can screw around in feild for hours with it just like what your talking about

Yamaha does not make a good ditch banger. The 4 strokes are just too heavy. Just look at the Sno-X races I haven't seen one competitive Yamaha all season. The other 3 manufactures make good ditch banging sleds. I would go with an XP if I did that kind of riding. Only problem is the xp 800s really don't run big top end numbers. They are quick up to 100 but then flatten right out. Your SRX should have more top speed than the xp800. The XP will get there quicker but if you were to go long enough the srx might pass it.

ditch banging is more fun anyways.who cares about the speed thing...so one sled goes faster then another by 5 mph.I would care more if I was making money off beating other sleds....

I say Phazer, Turbo!!
Would love to try one. 140ish HP in that light little sled. Should be a riot.
I've ridden stock Phazers and for ripping around the bumpy stuff they are fun. Just light on the HP for me. Good grunt off the line but lacking on the big end.

All I have is ditch banging... closest lake that freezes so you can get those long lake runs in.... far.
Keep the SRX or you will regret selling it!! But if you like ditchbanging you would love the Polaris IQ600rr or some kinda trail converted IQ/Race chassis sled. They are probably the best sled for what you want with out breaking the bank. If you want to go really radical there are alot of guys putting the Polaris XCR800 triples in the IQ/R chassis sleds and making complete animals out of them. If you were to buy brand new it would be a toss up between the Arctic Cat or Polaris but the Cat is HUGE money and the Polaris is hard to find new.tippmannator said:this winter created many questions for me. i enjoy ditch banging, carving and jumping more then anything. i could stay in one area for hours instead of putting on 200 miles. having said this, my 02' srx isnt set up to handle the punishment im throwing at it and i would hate to brake such a great sled. i have done alot of reading about converting the srx w/suspension, long tracks, lighter swing arms ect, ect. i will admit that i am not very machanicly inclined, and not set up to undergo summer long projects(garage, tools, knowhow).

The doo guys are jumping ship, even the faithful residents of valcourt, quebec (BRP's home town) are riding different brands. My last trip I saw more polaris's and cats everywhere.
BRP was sold to a private company years ago. BRP's home town is Florida, not Quebec.
Well I jumped untill they can build something I like,my 2011 800 assult is sweet at 457lbs 2400 miles of fun this yr very good on gas and oil, will be snow checking a nother polar donkey this yr a 800 pro r le,also bought my wife a 2011 600 rush lx she loves it.at 6'1" its hard to sit on yamahas any way the new sit up style sleds have really made me love riding again, and jumping lol

im in the same boat you are yamaha offers nothing really that im interested in with out a lot of mods. Im in the used sled market and the prices for a 4 stroke that fits my riding style is way to much. What i seem to be asking myself right now is why would i buy an 03 or 04 viper when i can get a ski doo rev for around the same price with the better rider position and better ride?

I sold my SRX after I long traveled it and still didn't like it for ditch bagging and jumping. I started building ProX's, 1st an 2001, then an 02, then an 03 and now a 04 ProXR. I've used the 440s, I've swapped in 500VES's and 600 VES's. Now I'm thinking of coming back to an SRX. I think it comes down to wanting what you don't have. If I switch back to an SRX I think I'm going to use ProX Walker Evans front shocks, SXR radius Rods in the front and a ProX rear skid. I also will need to find a Boss HighRise. I love the Polaris ProXs and have nothing bad to say about them at all, but for me it just comes down to wanting something else.
