Headlight relay kit? SRX relay ? no spark?
I am on a mountain trip and my 2001 SRX died. It starts runs for two seconds then losses spark. I unplugged the white relay by the left footwell and it runs fine. No lights tach etc works but it runs. Will it hurt anything to run this way? What does the white relay do? THANKS?

normally you unplug it and you will keep running..it is for emergency measures..don't know why the motor would run then if you were losing spark firstly..but it shouldn't harm anything.

White relay is a load control relay. You likely have a short somewhere in the system. Should have no problem running without it for awhile.

The power valves do work without the white relay. I have the same white and blue relays with matching part numbers in my 96 Kodiak 4x4 so I tried them and got the same results. So I ruled out the relays. (Glad I did not buy them the white one is $50 in Canada) Then I found this; Tech Bulletin S2001-002 is for 2001 SRX700F, 2001SX700F, and MM700F.
Problem is:
1. When headlight switch is in the low position, the engine will start but then quickly shut off. The engine will not stay running unless the haedlight switch is put in the high position when starting.
2. The engine will momentarily drop rpm and somtimes shut off once during the first start up. When restarted, the symptom is gone, and the unit will start and run normally.
Cause:
When the Load Control Relay engages at 700 RPM, it can cause a momentary loss of spark due to low ignition system voltage.
Remedy:
If either sysptom presents itself, replace the headlight relay with the Headlight Relay Kit designed to reduce current draw during start up.
Part #:
90891-50137-00 Headlight Relay Kit - includes sub-harness
Symptom 1 is exactly what it was doing since I bought the sled two years ago.
Symptom 2 is how it is behaving now.
Has any one else tried this fix? How did it work?

That kit does work, I put one on a few years ago and it fixed the problem on my 01 SX-R700. I have another one here now and it does the same thing. I checked and the kit is still available.

No kidding? My SRX has done this ever since it was new and I never heard of this before. Some of the guys that ride with me makes fun of it.
Now, I don't ride it because I got a 2011 sled.
So, how much is the kit?

I just tried the relay kit in the garage it seems to help but when I switch back and forth from high to low beam the tachometer drops to zero for a moment then comes up again. The engine also drops rpm for a split second. The hand warmers dim the lights when you turn them up and I don't think it did that before. Is that what yours did?edunn69 said:That kit does work, I put one on a few years ago and it fixed the problem on my 01 SX-R700. I have another one here now and it does the same thing. Mine only had the drop of rpm's on start up before installing the kit, its fine after installing. Never noticed any other problems before or after installing the kit.

It looks like I probably do have a short somewhere then. I hope it's not too hard to find.
If I start my 2000 SRX 700 up with the low beams on and then hit the high beams, my tach flips to 0 RPM for half a second, and then goes back up, but the revs do not drop.

I checked mine in the garage again and the tach drops but the revs don't. Iwill try to get it out on snow tonight.

I tried my sled yesterday and it runs good but when I switch headlight high low beam switch it does miss a bit and the red indicator light flashes three times just as if I was restarting it. Is this a sign of an electrical short?

Sounds like you have something grounding out.

I have not ridden this sled this year but have some trips planned to the mountains for the end of March. Unfortunatly I did not get to work on it last summer. I may try to pull the harness and check it before I go.

check the connector from the stator , the one with the three white wires to see if it is burned up from a loose connection. also check the same three white wires at the regulator/rectifier connection ,they can get loose there and burn also . this happened to me twice, once in both locations and gave the same symtoms that you are describing. if the light in the dash is flashing three times like your restarting it ,thats exactly whats happening . the cdi is loosing power momentarily and goes through its start up procedure again.srxhair said:I tried my sled yesterday and it runs good but when I switch headlight high low beam switch it does miss a bit and the red indicator light flashes three times just as if I was restarting it.
