SO i am the proud new owner of 01 sxr 700 and was wondering what you guys thought would be the best bang for buck as far as performance add ons. i would say i ride fairly agressive even though this is my first sled and first season ever snowmobiling! i put about 300 miles on it and i am HOOKED! now that the sledding is done for the year what upgrades should i do this summer? i am looking to spend no more than $1000. my sled has about 3500 miles on it with a 136 track. any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
 
reed notch or reed spacers will help.Check your reeds alao,I installed Carbon Tech Reeds years ago and they still are perfect shape.You can drill out the exhaust can and do single layer head gasket mod if you want.Check out you skid for sure..there will be be worn out bushings in there,you can tighten up everything and check the front skid shock bushings..they will be deformed for sure..you can go to a needle bearing replacement instead of those bushings.There is info on everything here..go to tech section and read and check out betheviper's write up on tightening your skid tricks.

check out tech section head mods gasket. transfer kit,maybe some cheap weight. pipes are probably your best bet. bender, slp, hauk. usually a good 10 lb drop in weight, and 20-25 hp. clutching is next. youneed to fine tune your slewd for exactly what you do. Lake racing, trail, hillclimbing. all are different need more info :2strokes:

Was your sled more responsive with carbon tech reeds and would you do it again?Sounds like they have held up well for you!
 
Thanks for all the suggestions. i love to hill climb but being that midwest iowa is so flat and i don't get out west more than once per year this is just a ditch banging sled.
i have been looking into triple pipes but read that it is recommended to had another heat exchanger? and also is clutching something i can do with common tools on my own?
 
i put bender transfer rods on my 97 700sx and they work great, a lot better hook up. they were $200 they are worth it
 
clutching

clutching is something you can wrench on your own. You need to look at what you are trying to accomplish. What I have learned is that all things work together for a common goal. Aka higher top end speed, hillclimbing, towing. you need to set up your machine to accomplish what you want from it. clutching and gearing are huge gains, if you know what it is you are trying to accomplish. heavy weights and steep angles on your cams canmake you fast off the line. gearing can make you a higher top end, or a better climbing machine. what do you want to achieve? :2strokes:
 
It has a 136 track i don't know what kind i am totally new to the sport. i would love a good hill climbing machine that i could still ditch bang at 70-80 mph. i do fun runs for the most part but would love to experiance the black hills or wyoming and deep powder.

reyes I dont mean to be a downer. or beat a dead horse. A good ditchbanger in the flatlands is not usually a good hillclimber. power is always welcome in any use. cheap well that is not easy. mpi transfer enhancement kit $50. loose 6lbs. reed spacers $50. lowered gearing $100. drilled airbox=free. fine tune clutching 100 plus alot of research and testing into what and where. drop off the stabilizer bar -5 lbs free. thuroughly clean carbs=free power. most details are on tech pages here. :letitsnow
 
Pipe it, clutch it, set up your suspention for your riding style, head gasket mod, notch the reeds, re-gear it, and you should me riding fast. I beat a 05 800 Rev 121 and mines a 136 heavy 3 cyl.
 
so since power can be used for both ditch and hills would it be feasable to have two completly diff. clutch setups that you can swap out? or is it better to have a sled dedicated to each one?
 
that is what most guys do. have a set of weights loaded for elevation on mountain and a flatlander set as it will overrev with a mountain set-up on the flats.

so i pulled my clutch yesterday and noticed that my primary spring is y-w-y is this stock for the sxr? also when i ran my sled this winter i noticed that it would lift the ski's is this normal for my sled? i thiought it was stock but i may be wrong???
 
one of the best things you can do is get a manual for it. i got a cd manual off ebay for like 10$. go through your sled and make sure everything is as it should be.clean the carbs, change fluids, make sure its gonna last you.
