Dirty Pilot Jet?

Took the wifes '00 MM 700 out for a fun ride the other day; when i was pulling into the driveway the sled wanted to die at low RPM and the exhaust sounded muffled. Did some quick checking. Sled idles fine with choke on; but the second I take the choke off the sled will die unless I get the RPM's up there. I get full power at half throttle and above. Did some quick searching on the forums and someone suggested if top end power is there but only idles with choke on that the pilot jet might be dirty?

Before I go out and go thru the whole process of pulling her carbs again for a full cleaning I just wanted to make sure I was on the right track here.

too elaborate on "all the way through" I had an 2000 sxr melt center cylinder because needle and seat was buggered up. With further diggin I found some pics on here that arent in the "carb cleanin 101" What I found works best is a pair of needle nose pliers on the float pin (opposite end of head of pin) place pliers so theyre pushin on pin and giveem a good squezze, should pop. DONT GRAB A PUNCH AND HAMMER AND TRY THAT, YOU WILL PROLLY BUST THE CARB! once pin is out pull float(needle should come with) pull phillips screw and seats should pull out, pop of screen and give it a good cleaning!
 
Carbs came out easily enuf. A little less than 2hrs with plenty of breaks. I'll clean em up in the morning and reinstall and test following the instructions on the site and the service manual for my sled. Hope if fixes the issue; wife of course is blaming me since i was the last person to ride it.

If it has been sitting a while check the exhaust port. mice, squirrels like using exhaust mufflers for storage. :letitsnow
 
Holy Crap! This sled acts brand new. I swear it gained 20 horsepower. I found a big chunk on the bottom of the airbox just broken off and missing so I fixed that as well as did a good carb and airbox cleaning. I'm amazed at the low end torque the sled has now. It's only been 2 years since I cleaned the carbs but man it really needed it. Took it to the nearest powerline and the sled picked the skiis up in the air like it never has before. Power almost seems a bit touchy now compared to before. Probably going to take the wife a little getting used to. But it's sure to bring a big grin when she's climbing up those bowls of pow at Arctic Man next month. These forums rock!

Shelf life of gasoline is only around 30 days now, you can't quite get away with skipping out on cleaning the carbs anymore.
 
I'm a believer now! Makes me want to go clean the carbs on my RMK 800 now. See if i can't breathe some life into it. Rock on!
 
On the bottom of the airbox near the intake boot there was a 2" jagged piece of plastic broken off and nowhere to be found. Consequently the bottom of the airbox was pretty gunked up and it was also right near the carb that had the clogged pilot. I would assume it cracked in really cold temps; that machine really sees any air time though as the wife rides it 99% of the time. So no idea what caused it.

It's a babied 2000 MM 700 w/less than 2k miles on it. Previous owner spent more time washing and waxing the thing in his garage then he did actually riding it. The wife put most of those miles on in the last 2 years. Been a super reliable sled; and the best sled purchase i've ever made. Great bang for the buck and so far relatively easy to work on.

I think everyone is wrong it's not jetting. the machine is obviously damaged beyond repair. How much for the motor. LOL. she should be a great sled. maintan it religiously and it will outride anything newer. :2strokes:
