I recently removed my secondary clutch to change my drive axle bearing and since I have reassembled it my sled seems to be dragging a little on the low speeds and if I stop I can hear my belt squeaking and dragging on it. Once I shut off the machine and start it again it seems to be fine. The belt is a new one so not sure if it's that or the secondary needs to be adjusted. The belt sits about 1/16 inch from the top of the secondary. Any suggestions on what to check would be appreciated.

maybe try & clean thee belt with some soapy water & dry it off good. clean where the belt rides in the primary & secondary.
sounds like the belt it sitting right.
also, make sure you didn't leave out any shims on the frontside or backside of the secondary when you took it off & then reinstalled. misaligned can cause perf. loss.
i'm no guru, but that's what i'd start with.

Thanks I did check the clearance and it was outside specs. I bought a couple of .5mm shims and added one. Still giving me same problem but not as bad. Seems like the belt is tighter for some reason and I didn't move the engine mounts so I'm not sure what's going on. Checked the bolts on the back and the spacers are all the same as before I removed it. Everything is fixed and I have checked everything except the offset and distance between primary and secondary. I don't have a sheave offset tool to check that but I guess I may have to buy one. unless someone has a suggestion on how to make one?

check the centre to centre. That would be the first thing you should check and then try adjusting with washers behind 2ndary.If you don't have a torque limiter behind the engine,engine could be also flexing back under power.This would change c to c under load also and belt won't ride in the proper zone..Start at 1 thing at a time and adjust to get her right.

set your belt deflection to specs belt will squel if to tight.prob have to open secondary a bit

Agree with Yammy...the screws have a habit of wearing away and getting shorter.
Check to make sure there is an unthreaded section at least 1/8" inch at the tip

Thanks for all the info. I have since taken apart the chain case and removed the secondary to check the shaft for any bad bearings. Nothing there. So I reassembled the chain case as per Yamaha Shop Manual specs and reinstalled the secondary. I bought 2 more .5mm shims and installed one. Still outside the play a little but the 2nd shim has no play at all so I figured some play is better than none. Cleaned all the belt marked off both primary and secondary and installed the belt. Belt sits at 0mm which is also specs on manual (0-2mm). I started it up and it was great.
Decided to take it on the trail to try it out. First couple of stops was great didn't hear any squealing. Did the reverse and the forward a few times and suddenly I hear it again. It wasn't dragging as bad as before but still slowing the engine slightly. I then lifted the hood and removed the guard while it was running to check to see if it was dragging. Didn't seem to be touching anywhere on the edges of the primary. So I returned to my garage and removed the belt. Seems to be dragging on the teeth of the belt now due to the marks on the shaft of the primary.
I do not have a sheave gauge but I did make something up as best as I could to measure and it seems to be within specs as well. Checked engine mounts as well and nothing appeared to have moved. I'm still thinking that something is off with the secondary but for the life of me can't figure out. With the winter ending I'm thinking I'm going to have to destroy some belts and start again in the spring...lol.

Also checked the set screws on back of the secondary and nothing there has moved. When I open the secondary the screws have about 1/8' there. The stopper seems to be fine and when I removed it I didn't do anything with the secondary except lay it on the bench. I took at piece of flat stock and laid it flush against the back of the primary and measured to the back of the secondary. Offset is supposed to be 18.5mm - 21.5mm and that seems about a mm off too much but I'm up against the bearing so can't see how I can get that closer.

Check if all your washers for the secondary clutch are in the right spot because its possible the clutch could be to tight and the washers are where there sapose to be and try cleaning your belt with some soapy water and let dry before putting it back on so it dont slip.
