asphalt srx700

ddcat--hope you don't mind a thread jack---

Any suggestions on 1/4 mile gear combos?

Also from a rookie perspective coming off the line--are you guys feathering into it to limit track spin or have them set up not to hit hard until you get into your run...kinda like a turbo car.

Never made a pass before, so don't know what to expect on a launch.

This is for asphalt too.

FRO. IF ITS A SRX RUN THE STOCK GEARING IN THE 1/4. AFEW OTHER THINGS. GET THIS SLED WHAT EVER IT IS TO LEAVE THE LINE AS HARD AS POSSIBLE. VERY IMPORTANT TO HAVE YOUR SKID SET-UP CORRECTLY. IF YOU DON,T HAVE A GOOD 60 f.t. TIME, YOUR E.T. WILL BE TERRIBLE. ITS ALL ABOUT E.T. NOT SPEED. FORGET THE TURBO THEORY. 3:16 (yammie tony)

leave 4600 max. most consistant in stock ride. 23/38 works good for 1320. good 60' is crutual like tony says.

So for cooling down, tell me if this sounds ok--
A closed loop system using an inline pump, passing thru a Civic radiator/fan, then into a sled H/E in a cooler full of ice...then out to the sled.

I found an inline transfer pump that's 310 GPH max...so what, maybe half that running thru this setup..maybe less?? Is it enough?

It would be similar to this setup, but with H/E in the cooler instead of the bilge.

I honestly never knew people were racing sleds on asphalt until a couple years ago. What all do you have to do to run them on asphalt?

Some wheels up front.
Pull the hyfax & add some wheels.
Track.
Something to cool it down with.
Then check with the local strip for their requirements.

FRO NICE JOB ON COOL CART. AND YOUR RIGHT , CHECK YOUR LOCAL TRACK, MOST WILL PROBELY BE SAFTEY REQUIREMENTS STARTING WITH A LEATHERS IF YOU GO FASTER THAN 10.99. 3:16 (yammie tony)

YG, that's not my cart. I found the pics online to model it after.

I was going to change things & have a sled heat exchanger in the bottom of the cooler, then fill it full of ice. So then I would have to run an inline pump vs a bilge pump. My concern was that the inlines are around 3-400 gpm max, while the bilges look like they go much higher.

This is just a concept. I would have to place the radiator like the one in the pics in relation to the cooler since the inlet & outlet are on the same side.

Seems like with the bilge pumps you would need to lug around a lot of water with you to make sure the cooler was full to start. With a closed type system I was hoping to minimize things. I figured I would have maybe another 2 coolers with ice. But, that's why I'm asking.

Why use a cooler full of ice. Car rad/fan, pump, battery that's all I use. You don't see guys with lug a cooler and ice for there race cars. Most have electric fans that they turn off a the stage area, make their run then turn it on at the end of their run to cool down on the way back.

all that i use to is car rad, fan and a 12 volt pump mounted on a doly cart. drive it back. hook up the quick connects and turn it on.

What pump do you have (gph) & what size are the in/oulets?

Fro, my cooldown is very simple and very compact, just a small cooler with wheels on it, boat bilge pump mounted in bottom, small motorcycle battery mounted in a bracket inside cooler,on/off switch(toggle) and some clear home depot water hose to hook up to the sled. I fill up old butter bowls with water and make ice blocks for the cooler. I have found that if you simply hook up the sled and run the hot water out of engine into the cooler it will melt your ice as fast as you can put it in. The way to get "all day" from your ice blocks is to simply put the outlet hose into a 5 gallon bucket, turn on the cooler after a pass and run the hot coolant into the bucket. Fill up the bucket then stick the outlet hose from sled engine back into the cooler and cool the engine down, this eliminates the hot water from melting the ice . Let the bucket sit off too the side and cool off. You can dump it back into the cooler after it has lost its hot flash. works good for me, I dont have to haul a bunch of ice and water to use it, and no extra cart in my trailer to take up space. If its something youd like to see I could take a couple pics for you, it cost less then a $100 to make.

cool cart

same here, except i dont use ice. cold water works just as good. fill the 5 gallon pale with the hot water and ur done. gpm - low, blasting water through only wastes water.

not sure what gph it is. it has 1" hose inlet and outlet. it is a heater boaster pump off of a CE international school bus.
