My Dad bought a 02 Vmax a few years ago with only 899 miles on it. Ever since we have had it, it doesnt take off as easy as it should. Like it has some kind of bind in it. This winter we have tried to figure out what is going on. We think there is some kind of bind in the suspension. I was wondering if anybody has had this problem before or knows what it may be.
Thanks
Thanks

Could be anything. If you suspect its the skid take it out and go through the hole thing. Can even folloe the skid rebuild post by betheviper. Have done it to all my skids and they unload themselves from the trailer now the roll so nice. Check chain case also. Chris

Thats what we were planning on doing during the summer sometime. Chain case is fine though, had it apart last spring when we put in a new track.
Thanks for the input.

Check to make sure it is the correct belt and that it is not worn thin.
How does it run after take-off? Is high speed okay?

It has the correct belt on it, got a brand new one at the beginning of winter. Idk why but its right at take-off when it has a little struggle to move. After that its fine.
Whammy the e-brake is not on lol.

If something is binding, you would be likely to notice it at all speeds. When you let off the throttle, it would be like applying the brakes.
Take the belt off and put the sled on a stand. Turn the secondary pulley by hand. The drive train and track should turn fairly easily. If it truly is binding somewhere enough to make take off difficult, it will probably turn very hard. Then set the sled on the ground and try it.
I would be looking for a problem in one of the pulleys. Possibly someone changed some parts or reset the secondary? Check the center to center distance.
Take the belt guard off and holding the hood open, carefully start off with the sled while watching the pulleys and belt to look for any problems. The belt should not be drawn down into the secondary at take off.

Just because it's disengaged, doesn't mean it's free, could be binding/hanging up. Try to lift up the e brake handle, is the wire really loose the first millimeters?
Pick up the back of the sled so the track is off the ground and turn the secondary over by hand and see how hard it is to make the track go around. You should be able to move the track around without too much effort. If not then you will need to find what is binding.

My dad and I have been trying to figure out this for a bit. We have had one of his friends check it out that works on yamahas and he cant find whats wrong either. He actually bought a new 1997 vmax sx 700 back in the day and had the same problem with his as my dad is having. Its just like something isn't right somewhere. The way he fixed it was taking the whole sled completely apart and putting it back together which fixed it. He never did find anything that would have caused it.
Thanks guys for all of your responds. Just wanted some feedback on what may be causing it to do that. Sled is put away right now. Hoping your opinions may lead us to fixing this later in the summer. Thanks again guys.
