Don't mean to hyjack thread but what does the srx base gasket do ..Will it work for stock viper its an 02 viper er

allows for better even cooling of the cylinders and heads. yes it will work on your stock viper.

Again don't mean to hyjack but what year base gasket ...or are they all the same ... thanks again ... I'm rebuilding her this summer ... I tryed the spi pistons and i don't like them going with stock this time ... Ran great till 6800 miles then wife overheated it so i put those in
Thanks again for the help

hey guys just a update

got some bender pipes, bender clutch kit and jetting on the way...

- have a set of 00 srx 700 heads and water rail lined up, and a rack of carbs from the same 00 srx

- where is the best place to ship the srx heads to get machined for the opticool head gasket?
- who makes a timing retard key? i have a 04 engine in my sled
- do i need 2 srx water rails and modify them to make it work? anyone have any details or pics?
- what about the dowls? how do i install them? what will i need?
- should i just use stock 00 jeted srx carbs with bender pipes to be safest?

do i really need srx carbs? and how decent is benders clutching?

Why didn't you not like about the SPI pistons? You just said it ran great for 6800 miles, until overheated. What's not to like about SPI pistons? They come coated right out of the box, at a affordable price.

Sorry it was all stock till 6800 miles , with stock pistons in it , then i put the spi pistons in after that can you use the srx base gas. with the bender head gas. or is there no need just one or the other

So what didn't you like about the SPI pistons??

Hauck used to have timing keys...they are normally used to advance timing but all you have to do is install them so it retards the timing. The keyways have a notch cut into them. They work by changing the relationship of the flywheel to the crankshaft and ultimately the pistons top dead centre[TDC] To advance the timing you would be indexing the flywheel so it triggers the spark earlier then the normal position and to retard the timing you would install the key so the flywheel is triggering the spark later.
Bikeman used to have them as well.

Well i guess its not that i don't like them my wife rides it so sometimes she can't wait just rides off so i would like it to be a little better in the fail safe area

You might want to retrain your wife out of doing that.I have seen plenty of yamaha pistons ruined in fan cooled moters that people think they dont have to warm up properly. And i do run spi pistons and would be the first to say if they were junk or not. They work fine!
