Powder Coating Trailering Arms ????

Do you know if its ok to powder coat the trailering arms with that rear bushing installed?

Can the rear bushing even be removed?

Anyone have any experience with this???

I powder coated the trailing arms for my SRX with the rubber bushings installed. They were not affected by the heat. I see no problem powder coating the arms with the bushngs in place. The bushings are pressed in/out.
 
The rubber bushing is actually inside a thin metal sleeve. To remove/install the bushing, you need an arbor which applies the press pressure to the outer metal sleeve and NOT the rubber nor the center metal part or else the rubber to metal bond will be broken making the bushing useless.

Thats what I was thinking as well.

Out of curiosity...does it matter the direction the bushing is removed/installed from??
 
The direction of removal and installation does not matter. If you do remove it, use loctite when you reinstall it.

X2 - make sure they plug the spindle holes or you'll be scrapping the powder coating out to fit the bushings. I think the guy that did mine used steel dowl rod so that the edge of the hole got coated but not the inside of the holes.

Snomofo is absolutely correct!! My powder coater uses hi temp silicone rubber plugs to plug clearance holes and threaded holes to prevent them from getting coated. Depending on the powder and the thickness of the coating, the powder coated layer can be very difficult to remove. You can easily avoid the problem with the rubber plugs.
 
Well this is a buddy that set up his own powder coating system in his garage. Ill mention it to him.

So far hes done my grill vents and springs.

Will be doing my ski saddles, trailering arms, tie rods, and secondary clutch covers.

Should be pretty cool when its all finished!

I powder coat all of my trailing arm with the bushings in I cover them with silicone and foil tape and cook them lower temp.
