Superb crankshaft service!!!

I just got my crankshaft from my 2000 SRX back from Midwest Crankshaft in Green Bay WI. I am completely satisfied with the service from them. I sent the crankshaft to have it checked after 13000 miles and a burn down on the center cylinder. It turns out the connecting rod was damaged from the lean burn down and 2 of the main bearings required replacement. Jeff at Midwest measured the crankshaft to determine the repair work required, diassembled the crankshaft, replaced 2 bearings and the connecting rod, reassembled the crank, welded the center crank pin and shipped it back to me for $300. The service was fast and very friendly!! I have 2 more crankshafts which I will be sending to Jeff for inspection and repairs. He completed the work and had it back to me in less than 2 weeks after he rec'd it.

That price must just be for parts, there is no way you can replace all those parts with new ones and the labor for $300.00, I just bought two new main bearings one was $201.00 and the other was $90.00.

lyle, that price is w/labor. Jeff does great work at a great price. he's been doing all my cranks for years. i won't go anywhere else. he just trued up a kx65 crank for free for me. :)

jim, i'm glad you are happy w/jeff's service. told ya he's the man for crank repair. ;)!

can i ask where you bought your crank bearings from? i know jeff puts yamaha/koyo bearings on the yamaha sled cranks.
 
Can I get a address and phone number I have been looking for someone that does crank work around here and Green Bay is only 3 hours away.
 
Dont all stores charge retail? I needed some clutch parts for the m 1000 this year and I paid retail at arctic cat also.

I can tell you that here in Canada, the difference between "retail" and the price you pay at dealers can be drastic.

Without naming any dealers, I have dealt with a few local dealers whos prices on parts are FAR different.

Example: I called one dealer for a Yamaha part that cost $170 from them.

I called another dealer that is a little furthur away, and a smaller dealer, and his price was $120 for the EXACT same part.

no lyle, not all stores charge retail. one dealer by me, marks up his price 10% OVER retail/msrp and then when you go in there to buy something, he drops his price 10% to make you feel good, but you still got screwed. port yamaha has good prices on there parts. something like 16-22% off i think. some dealers have smoken great prices and other dealers prices just blow.

I have a second crankshaft from another SRX 700 engine I am rebuilding packed up and ready to send to Jeff and Midwest Crank. One more crankshaft to go after that one to build a complete spare engine.
 
Josh I do agree, some dealers blow I know my local yamaha dealer does, I am not suprised he does't have a fee to get in the door,I have orderd from a place called babbitts once seemed like a good deal until they added the over inflated shipping then it worked out the same as my POS local dealer.

Haha....charge a fee to get in the door. That's a good one.....never heard that one before. Next time try www.portyamaha.com as kevin is a pleasure to deal with down there. Other choices are www.yamahasportsplaza.com and www.yamahapartsnation.com Your brake rotor is shipping today too......all boxed up.
 
wow, this sounds like the way I may end up going!!! I was thinking I was looking at about 4 times that cost to get mine back together!!
 
That's the cheapest I've ever heard of. Seeing the price of the crank and its replacement bearings put me about 1mm from selling my sled.

That's cause you keep thinking you got to replace all of the bearings. Only fix what's broke. That's all that the crank rebuilders change out/fix anyway. If you got 1 flat tire, you're not going to change all 4......you're only going to change/fix 1 tire. Same with crank components.

If I've got 3 worn tires and a flat, I'm going to do all 4, not wait for each one to wear down until its bald and strands me somewhere in the middle of winter
