SCIII or Edge Skid in my SRX?

I have a 1999 SRX 700 triple. I have the noaction skid still, looking to upgrade to a new skid, i was hoping for a monoshock but can't seem to find one for a reasonable price..

So my question is..given the choice of...

(1)SCIII 121' $325 shipped
(2) Edge skid 121' $350 pickup

What would you choose and why...also how hard is install for either one??

Both are good choices. I would put the Edge slightly ahead in big bump performance. However, there are different shock choices for each that can make either one a better choice. They both are easy installs as they are 2-point mount designs. All you need is the measurements and the ability to get the mount points accurately placed and reinforced. One thing to consider is condition and mileage of each. This along with which shock package are likely the biggest considerations.
 
Lot's of options for reinforcing. Some simply use 6061 aluminum, others like Tom use stainless or galvanized. All of them work well with each having considerations. Without doing the engineering for stress calculations all you are trying to do is spread the forces that the skid arms get to a larger footprint on the tunnel than just the bolt holes. Unless you have to go very thin, 6061-T6 is my choice ($10- $20 per square foot depending upon thickness). 7075-T6 can also be used when it needs to be very thin but is about twice the price.

As Tom said rivets are the best to secure the plates. Use a quality rivet such as the Stavex which is what is used in many places on the Yamaha tunnels.
 
Okay thanks alot Ding...where can I buy the aluminum and rivets? Online?

And here is my next question, showing I am a total newbie cuz I never took shop class or small engines in high school..

Do you us a punch or drill the holes? How big should the rivets be? Do you need a special rivet gun or will a normal one do?
 
www.onlinemetals.com works for me. You need to measure carefully first so you get the right thickness.

I can get you rivets if you want $27 for 100 shipped.

Drill the holes, they need to be as clean and crisp as possible..
