I started putting together the top end of the my engine. I have new Yamaha rings I am trying to install....

But the rings seem to be sticking in the grooves. If I compress the rings in the pistons they just stay in place..??

Ive cleaned the grooves out several times. Im not sure what is going on.

The only thing I can think of is that my pistons are not OEM. Is there a way to tell for sure??

Any Ideas...

if the pistons are oem, you should see a cast or part number prefix inside the piston. at least most the ones i have purchased in the last few years have had this.

if your using new rings, there is an upside and a down side. if you look closely at the gap in the ring there should be a noticable bevel in the ring. the bevel is the upside, the flat portion goes down. also, with new rings, if you look closely, you will see marking numbers. typically the numbers go up.
